amount of ammo
What caliber do you have the most of.
Not looking for how much just which one you have the most of.
For me I have more 7.62.x51 Nato than any other.

I have a little! But, this makes me think of something a “slow-talk’n” country from Arkansas told me many years ago, when we were talking about stockpiling for a crisis. He said, in a very slow drawl.... “I only need one bullet, I’ll kill that ***, and take his stuff”! If you knew him....his assessment was probably pretty accurate! Though, for myself, my philosophy differs a bit! memtb

I only have one 12 gauge and not one single shell. LOL
A Winchester Model 370.
I had to go look at it to see what it is.

I had to ask myself this years ago...what to "stockpile"...
The whole "buy cheap and stack it deep" thing comes to mind.
Personally, I only need so much defensive stuff. I never shoot it, its expensive, and what would I do in a panic situation with 5000 rounds of ammo that weights hundreds of lbs?
The only thing I tend to buy in bulk is ammo I run through target shooting which before this corona mess, I was doing weekly. In that case, I like to keep a good case or better on hand. Reloading supplies, even more. I can get the "itch" and burn through 300 or so rounds of 9mm or 38 special in one range outing, if the mood strikes me.
People with literally tons of pounds of ammo confuse me...it's just too much to move around in a panic. I have a small ammo can with "OH ****" written on the side, it is full of loaded 30 round AR mags in sealed plastic bags. In the event of a bug out...it and my AR is literally about all I can carry. I can't haul 5000 rounds of 223 around with me quickly.
*end rant

.22 long rifle. Its the perfect survival round. One can hunt small game with it or defend your dwelling. I have been stockpiling it for years.

21 bullets left. Should have gone to the store
in February.

Bought out a store of their stock of Winchester 20 gauge slugs, at 40 cents a box of 5 slugs per box about 35 years ago when the store was going out of business. Nobody wanted them so I ended up buying them. I traded a bunch of them for a nickel Browning Hi-Power, and traded some more for a North American Arms 22. Finally bought a 20 gauge to shoot them about 5 years ago. I think I still have a 100 or so boxes left... You guys have no idea how many times I tried to throw in a few boxes as boot on a trade deal with my buddies! They all now tell me they don't want any slugs when we start to trade before I can try my sale's pitch.
I guess my heirs will eventually dispose of them one day.

I have a lot of .22 LR, and the second is 9mm. I really only need thirty-two rounds of 9mm. Thirty-two rounds will fill a magazine for my Uzi SMG. If a roving gang of marauding Cossocks ever comes onto my property, a few bursts from my Uzi will convince them that they have the wrong address.

Most... 22lr by far. Then in order 556, 9mm, 45acp, 762x51, 5.7x28 then dribs and dbabs in the few hundred rounds range each of 10mm, 380, 41mag, 45lc, 357SIG, an probably some 32acp. Oh yeah, and 12ga 4 buck, 00 buck, and a couple hundred slugs.
I'm pretty much good to go.
The only thing I am short on is 300BLK subsonic. I just bought my first 300 about 60 days ago... and then BAM....

I like to stay current on my practice and training so I keep a good supply of loaded ammo on hand. Over the past couple of years I have had to change my daily carry handgun due to surgeries (shoulder, elbow, wrist, cataracts) limiting my ability to handle my usual full-size 1911 .45.
I still have a good supply of .45, probably enough for a year of weekly range sessions. Followed pretty closely by .38 Special, which I am relying on more in recent months. Good stock of .357 magnum, should last me a good long time. Enough 9X19 to keep the Hi Power supplied for the foreseeable future. Got real ambitious on .40 S&W when I purchased a nice Sig P229 a while back, and haven't been able to enjoy it yet.
Always on the lookout for .22 Shorts to feed an old Winchester Winder Musket. Plenty of .22 LR for now, as long as the grandkids don't show up and want to go shooting.
12-gauge target loads stacked up pretty good. I don't shoot shotgun much anymore, but I have plenty for a few trips to the trap & skeet club. Several boxes of field loads in shot sizes suitable for most uses. A full box (25 rounds) of Super-X 00-buckshot came my way recently with a bunch of other stuff, so I doubt I'll ever need any more.
.30-06 is in pretty good supply, both M2 ball for the Garands and Springfields, hunting loads for most North American critters, and reduced loads (cast bullets) for practice and fun. .30 Carbine, probably enough to keep me going for a year or two.
.30-30 is always a challenge. The grandkids haven't figured out they can buy it at the store, just keep sending me their empties every year for me to reload in wholesale lots.
.44 Special, .45 Colt, .44-40, .38-40, .32-20, .25-20, .300 Savage, .250-3000, .243 Win, .308, .30-40 Krag, .45-70, .45-90 Win, .45 Sharps Express, and a few other odds and ends that I enjoy occasionally. Nothing stacked deep, but enough to be comfortable for now.
Thankfully, over the past year or so since supplies have improved and prices have receded to sensible levels I have been restocking primers and powder to keep my reloading going. Lots of folks scrambling for supplies now, and the scalpers are coming out again, so I'm happy not to have to deal with that nonsense for now. Couple 5-gallon buckets of old wheel weights and some new linotype metal will keep me casting bullets for the time being, although I have been using more commercially cast bullets over the past few years rather than spend days at a time casting, sizing, lubing, etc.
Note to self: You are not a hoarder, you are just fairly well prepared.

Wimp!
5000 rounds only weighs about 130 lbs
1 m193 = 183 grn
1000 rounds = 183 x 1000 = 183000 grns
1 pound = 7000 grns
1000 rounds = 26.14 lbs.
5000 rounds = Approx 130 lbs.

I also stick more 22LR than anything else. I also load a lot of .38 Special ammo.
Slight OT, my good friend when asked which gun to but for doomsday says, you only need a gun good enough to get a better gun. I agree. As for ammo, stock what you shoot best and call it good.

I've always kept a big supply of all my caliper ammo, 9MM;.22LR;380;38 special. I have the most of 9MM and .22LR in equal amounts.

In loaded rounds I have more .22's than anything else. I have enough power, primers and lead to load plenty of my handgun rounds. I go to the range once or twice a month so I figure that I have a 3 year supply of ammo or components on hand.

Mostly 9mm...
... and I can always make more of about anything I want except .22 and 7.62 x 39 for which I just buy the TullAmmo because my SKS shoots brass to the moon.
I've also got a fair amount of 12 ga.

.22 LR followed by 9mm and then 7.62x39. I've tried to learn from the
past shortages and stock up a bit while supplies were good and prices
were low. I will never run out of these in my life time

9mm easy to buy and got two great pistols to feed it to: A German Heckler & Koch USP and an Italian Beretta 92FS.
Got a lot of .45 auto too.
