.32 long - .32 ACP
I fully expect that this is truly a "rookie" question, but what the heck: Can .32 ACP be fire reliably out of a revolver chambered for .32 SW Long? Revolver in question: Model 30.
Thanks!

I’ve shot a couple of boxes of 32acp in my model 31. I didn’t experience any issues other than having to poke out the brass.

As a fairly new .327 Mag owner I searched for this same answer.
My search found many saying yes, their .32 Long, .32 H&R and .327 Mag revolvers shoot .32 ACP.
Other say no theirs did not shoot them reliably.
I have a good supply of .32 Long and .32 H&R and decided to stick with that. So, my personal experience is zilch.

Makes me wonder if they would work in an old S&W break top in .32 S&W short I have. Total ACP length is just a barely longer than the Short.

There may be pressure issues using 32 acp in the short 32 top break.

I would not advise trying this if you value your fingers, eyes, and your gun get the correct ammo. Chamber pressure for 32 acp is probably about double that of the 32s&w.

The 16-4 can safely handle the .32acp, .32S&W, .32S&W long and .32 H&R Magnum

32 ACP is a semi-rimmed cartridge. It will usually work fine in any MODERN swing out cylinder revolver chambered for 32 S&W Long, 32 Magnum or 327 Magnum. Just like shooting 38 Special in a 357 Magnum, be sure to clean the chambers of the cylinder after shooting the shorter cartridge to keep the longer cartridges from dragging on the fouling from the shorter cartridge.

When I got my K-frame 327 built, I shot it with all of the straight sided 32 handgun cartridges including the 32 ACP, just to see whether it could be done. The answer in my case was “yes” but since I load for myself and have plenty of brass in 32 S&W Long (as well as the longer stuff) I see little reason to even look for 32 ACP, except in an emergency situation when I needed ammo in a hurry. Then I know it would work.
Thirty two ACP in a top break revolver? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Faced with that option, I’d throw the gun at my attacker and look for a big stick!

I have experienced a few misfires firing .32 ACP in a .32 Long chamber. The .32 ACP bullet diameter is also a little undersized for a .32 Long barrel. There is a bit of excess headspace. If you fire maybe 20 rounds in your revolver without a misfire, it is probably reliable. No one would recommend firing .32 ACP in any of the old .32 S&W top break revolvers.
