Default Herter's 9mm

I got two boxes of 100 at Cabela's in Billings Montana.
The price was $17.99. I've never used this brand before
and was wondering what people think about it.

At one time it was made by S&B in Czechoslovakia and I couldn't tell any difference between it and the S&B branded ammo. I'm not sure who is making it for the Herters brand now, someone here probably knows.

I don't know about the maker, but I have shot a lot of it and have never had a problem with it. I've used it in several different guns no problem.

The Herter’s ammo I’ve used in the past has been fine.

The Herter’s 115gr I recently bought appears to be rebranded Winchester White Box. I’ve had no issues with it. At 18 cents/round, I’d happily buy more.

That's right, it's made by Winchester.
I just recently bought 4 boxes of 50 rds. each box, of 230 gr. 45 ACP for $13.99 a box from Bass Pro Shops. It sure beats paying $9-$12 for shipping.

Thanks for posting this. I don't usually check BassPro for ammo. $9/box for 115 gr 9mm brass is a bargain right now. Free shipping to boot. I usually shoot 124 or 147 gr at the range, but for punching paper, 115 gr should work just fine.

When Bass Pro bought Cabela's they cancelled all the ammo contracts that Cabela's had set up. When customers started to complain they set up a contract with Winchester. Prices went up and quality, well …..

Some of the second rate ammo is a little cheaper because it might use hulls or cases that might be throw away's or make for a poor quality material for reloading.

If the ammo comes with quality cases, standard primers and no alum/tin in the mix..
then you are truly getting a good deal.

Had bad experience with Herters 9mm twice. Ist time several misfires out of 50rds with a Shield and Brn Hp. The second time there were more guns involved with same rate of misfires and dirty. All Herters 9mm I’ve had was in 50rd boxes. I was under the impression that Herters bought bulk ammo on spot market and packaged it under their brand. It’s not like the old Herters Co. that contracted merchandise to be made and branded for them.
Bought lots of stuff from Herters, from fish hooks to rifles and always got quality products. It ain’t your grandfathers Herters anymore.

Herter's is only a fond memory for most of the older members here. I bought tons of stuff from them, and their catalogs were great entertaining reading for hunters, fishermen, and shooters. Now it is nothing more than a house brand name.

Herters is a trademark owned by Cabelas (presumably now by Bass Proshop). The actual manufacturer is no doubt selected on a competitive bidding basis with all of the attending quality issues that implies. Not too long ago, Fiocchi was making their 9mm. I haven’t checked it in a while. Regardless, it is usually their least expensive offering, often rivaling the online distributors.

Win makes that new Herter's. I bought some on sale at Cabela's the first of March..7.99 a box. So the price you paid wasn't all that much higher. It seems to shoot good

There used to be Herter's 9mm with polymer coating instead of copper sold by Cabela's.
I bought 500 rounds and it shot very good not to dirty.

SYL...snooze ya lose. I kinda feel if you find it cheap buy what you can while you can. Worry about how accurate or clean or whatever??.. just remember to not buy it again in the future if you aren't happy with it... Or maybe try it in a different gun..
