Hornady Handgun Hunter Ammo
In my recent posts regarding the .357 for deer I've mentioned bullets a time or two. Today I thought I would see if Hornady offered a 180 gr XTP. Went to the website, saw no 180 gr but did see the new line of Handgun Hunter ammo. Looks like a pretty complete range of calibers, but I did notice one thing, they all seemed to be "light for caliber" bullet weights. The .357 load offered was 130 gr, the .44, .454 and .460 were all 200 gr. These seem awfully light to me for deer and bigger game like elk and moose.

Short of handloads I wouldn't expect to see the big names i.e. Rem, Winch.,Hornady offer a 357 in 180g loads. The 'boutique' manufacturers i.e. Corbon for example, might.

Remington offers one in their HTP lineup, 180 gr SJHP, as does Federal in the Premium line Swift A-Frame 180 gr.

You never know what a bullet will do until you try it.
Look what that company did for the little 30-30 rifle.
Remember when Barnes came out with a copper bullet, of all things?
Small for caliber, little light copper bullets, that we knew were too light to have a good BC and get enough energy to kill animals, right ??
One never knows what these ammo companies are cooking up.

True that. Bullet technology has come a long way, even in the past 10 years.

Hornady sells the 180gr .357 XTP for reloading. It's #35771. States it's for hunting, personal defense, and law enforcement. I load them for my 77-357 bolt action and GP100 revolver over W296 and Federal magnum primers. I would not shoot them in any Smith smaller than an N-frame.

Sorry I was meaning my own handload. It's warm - using rifle-only data. I'm sure an L-frame would be fine if you work up a good load using the right spcifications.
