Out of the box, Ithaca 37 Slug Guns were the best for accuracy. Second was Brn A5. Every thing else was individual gun. In guns with quick change barrels the fit of one barrel to the action is critical. When making slug guns the older model guns with no detachable barrels tended to shoot better. Guns like M25 Win and Hi-Std solid frame models made good ones.

I have seen standard hunting shotguns of all chokes that would shoot a slug right over the bead front. They are few and far between.

I talked with a Remington engineer about the slugs. He said some do a bit. And then some don't. He also told me even if they do spin it won't be enough to make them more accurate. So some do ...some don't... some will... some won't... this one might. As far as rifled bbls and foster slugs I wouldn't do it. They are so soft they lead the bore something fierce. I once bought an 1100 rifled bbl from LLBean's returned store. I paid 25 dollars. It had no real discernable rifling to speak of. When I got done cleaning it, the bbl was fully rifled and shot sabots just fine. I got the lead out using mercury. Weighing all it seems there was an ounce of lead plating the inside of that bbl. I shot fosters out of rifled choke bbls and they didn't do all that well with them and only somewhat more accurately with sabots. When it came to the Ithaca slug guns and the Browning buck bbls I think the main thing they had in their favor was the fact they had good rifle sights. Most slug shooters never shot much more than a 100 yards anyway...most much less. I do think Ithaca did some work finding the right amount of choke to use with the foster slugs though

I can recommend the following:
-Brenneke TKO out of a Rem 870
-Federal Truball out of a Win 1200
-for sabots, Hornady SST out of a Mossberg 500 rifled barrel
