Default Buffalo Bore 45 Auto Rim

I'm on an active hunt for a 625 in 45 ACP/AR and wondered if anyone has used the Buffalo Bore 45 AR products, either standard pressure or +P. I like the looks of their 255 grain LFN at 850 fps, but I'm wondering how close to published velocity that is from 3"-4" barrels. The 225 grain wadcutters also look good. Has anyone tried these?

Thanks in advance!

I haven't tried that loading, but I've chrono'd other calibers - .380, 9mm, .357 shot from the same gun or barrel length he used (he usually names the gun used in his velocity testing) and they were within 10-20 fps of what he published. If barrel length is not the same, I've often seen 40-50 fps slower cited for every barrel inch shorter.
He's proud of his product - call him up with your info and ask him. I'll think he'll be glad you are interested.

All the Buffalo bore ammo I’ve used and chronographed has been very close to what is published. He will answer any questions you might have about any of his products. Some of his loads are my go to for carry rounds in more than a few calibers. They are expensive but worth it.

If you reload, the classic 255 grain SWC 45 Colt cast bullet works very well. I size mine to .454" to accommodate the charge hole throats on my revolvers and they are very accurate.

As I shoot mine in 1917 (Colt & S&W) revolvers, I keep my loads out of the +P territory, but they'll knock a bowling pin over quite nicely.

I checked Underwood, they don’t have the rimmed loads. I have found Underwood to be the quality of Buffalo Bore and far cheaper. But I will say BB is top flight—I think they and Underwood make the finest commercial ammunition made today.

I have tried 2 loads. They are hot. Much different than hardball. Expensive but great to keep for your first 6.

#1 Standard pressure, 200 grn. JHP 1000 fps, 444 ft lbs.

#2 +P 200 grn. JHP 1200 fps, 639 ft lbs.

I could not get the other one I wanted, a hard cast solid SWC, not sure of the weight, 250/300?

As I said, too expensive for frequent range trips but outstanding ammo.

I have a few boxes of BB 225gr +p wadcutters.

That big full diameter wadcutter should be an effective self defense round.

Might also be a reasonable bear load.

Have both a 25-2 and a 625JM to shoot it in.

The guy I bought the 25-2 threw in 500 rnds of AR handloads with semi-wadcutter bullets.

I've never shot any of those because I'm a bit leery of other people's handloads.

I have shot a good bit of 230gr JHP .45 Super BB thru a 625-3 4" with no ill effects......
I also used to use 454424 cast on 7.5gr Unique before it came to be frowned on. A lot of it was fired through a 2nd model .455 with a shaved cylinder. This practice may have been dangerous but I never had any problems. These loads were crimped in the groove and loaded in clips for headspacing. A 625 can be rechambered to .460 Rowland so it is probably safe with any BB .45AR factory load. This is just my opinion but you asked............

While I have not used the particular loading you are referring to, I am a big fan of Buffalo Bore and have used many other of their products. They have always been consistent, extremely accurate, and are one of the only ammo Company's I know of that will chronograph at exactly what they state!

Buy a box and try them out.

I tried out the Buffalo Bore 255 grain lead standard velocity yesterday. The were excellent, very accurate, and I'm truly not sure why there would be a need for the same bullet at +P pressures!

Yes, that is probably .45Colt factory type performance. Everyone knows you can add a little pep to factory loads at close to the same pressures by judicial powder selection......

Yes, indeed. It was odd to put such short cartridges in a revolver, but I adapted!

I really enjoy loading and shooting .45AR and speed loading with .45ACP crimped in clips. A serious case of a stop gap measure turning out to be a great Idea. Very efficient use of lead and powder........
