BE CAREFUL.
The sort of criminals that have ability to hack or social engineer their way into database and retrieve unencrypted passwords, email addresses and user IDs are rare. And that is a lot of work to go through to find the email address of someone that is probably hundreds or thousands of miles away from you. Unless your email address is [email protected] there is the added step of going from the email address to your real name and then making sure you are not someone else with the same name. And you are assuming some random guy on the internet is not vastly exaggerating what they own. TV shows make it look like all you have to do is ask your friendly neighborhood hacker to break into a system and they can give you what you want in a few minutes. It doesn't work that way in real life. If it really was that easy we wouldn't have online commerce, let alone online banking.

The kind of criminals that try to break into computer systems are going to try to trick you into sending them bitcoin or apple gift cards, not break into your house.

The kind of criminals that break into houses are going to look for houses that look empty, easy to break into without getting caught and have some easily sold valuables inside. I would be much more worried about the kid next door noticing that gun safe in your garage they see every time you park your truck or the son of a coworker that is always hearing about "That guy at work with all those guns". Or just a random burglary.

If the government wanted to know who has guns they would start by asking dealer to hand over all their 4473s. Or have credit card companies turn over information about everyone that has done business with Midway, Natchez, SGammo, etc.

I do avoid posting too much information, particularly on places like Facebook or other places that use my real name. If you looked at every post I ever made there you would never know if I owned a gun or not. These days expressing your political beliefs as guaranteed by the first amendment on social media can cost you your job too. But the risk is associated with posting here is too low to worry about considering other risks. If I couldn't talk about guns I own here I don't know where I could.

Well, I was wrong, and admit it. I thought things were starting to turn the corner at the end of June, when we saw a couple Cabela's/Bass Pro deals on Herter's 9mm.

They turned a corner, all right- straight off the cliff. There's hardly anything available at all, and what's there is priced through the ceiling.

If you ain't got it now, I doubt you'll have it before December.

Ha!!!!! I couldn't help but chuckle when I read this. As I've said before, TSUSA is my barometer and my barometer is telling me that things aren't getting any better. In fact, they are getting worse.

Again, I'm in very good shape and this isn't a cry for help, but you have to wonder where this all is going. How does it end? When does it end? You think December? Oh good, just in time for Christmas gifts!

Thank you, I do appreciate the advice. I am like Dave Lively, yes there are people who may be able to do such, but I am not concerned. If they are that skilled they are likely to not care about a fairly modest gun and ammo collection than hacking a bank or credit card company or other businesses. A bunch of guns and ammo versus the possibility of a huge amount of money from a corporation...which to choose to spend my time and use my computer skills on?

Thumbs up Only In Rural Texas

The most recent prepping I have done is installing several Security CAMs & Alarms around all of my property, as well as inside my Reloading/ Mechanical/ Woodshop/ Harley MAN CAVE...

Got +33lb powder and 12-13k of lead & primers in my three favorite calibers. In addition, maybe half that ## already loaded. Starting to get a bit low on brass though... ~+1k. Have defensive equipment within reach in all spaces for the "...if & when..."

All I need to do now is freshen up the sand in my home range target and free up some brass!
Life is hard, but someone has to do it...

There is no shortage of ammo. There is only an over abundance of people who procrastinate and think(?) they need ammo because everybody else is doing exactly the same thing.

Buy ammo when you can, then you're good to go when nonsense like this happens.

NO shortage HERE in MY cache. Others will have to evaluate their OWN individual environment.

I was just at my favorite LGS to pick up more targets and cleaning supplies. They've been out of 9mm ball and 223/556 for a few weeks now. A young shooter came in and bought 2 cases of 9mm Gold dot--$1100+ without batting an eye.

Well, to be fair, Targetsports had come down too. At the same time I got a case of Herter's for under $200 from Bass Pro, I saw targetsportsusa had stuff at around $230, and in stock.
That was near the end of covid phase one, as we were going into phase 2.

Then, we went from pandemic lock-down to lawlessness and rioting, and everything vanished. Guns, ammo, reloading supplies, everything. I was able to snag an AR 15 for under $500, got some Tula 223 for $250 (end of June and early July), and that was the last gasp. Since then, the only things I've seen have been the one recent Tula sale the other day (sold out in minutes), and one online seller briefly had a couple ARs at $499. That same place now has a gun for $899, best price.

I must have missed it. On my last trip to Bass Pro, they were cleaned out (all except the hunting calibers). I was going to take a photo of the bare shelves, but some guy searching for .22 LR would not get out of the way.

I've signed up for alerts with TSUSA for all of the cheaper handgun range ammo in 9mm and .38Spl. When the Smartphone don't buzz, I know it's them not notifying me.

I live in East TN. I’ve been here 69 years since I was 3. Things have changed here too and not for the better. We have what we call half backs. Half backs are the folks that sold their houses in NJ and NY and moved to Florida. They get there and hate the heat, humidity and bugs so the pick up and move to ET. ET is pretty much half way back home. Our climate is much milder, fewer bugs and amazing scenery with very affordable housing and no state income tax. Of course they have the obligation to show us illiterate rednecks how we should be living our lives. They bring with them their attitudes and liberal ways. They want life here to be just like where they came from. Funny that they never stop to think about what they are trying to get started is why they left the north, taxes and regulations. Fortunately they live among their own and don’t talk to us trailer trash.

I will say I have met a few at the range and they’ve been decent people but that’s what you’d expect from shooters.

I saw some, American Eagle I think.

My perspective was skewed. I'm an RN at a hospital; when everyone else was locked down I was working non-stop (would have liked a break). We saw a downturn, I thought the world was returning to normal. Instead, it was just a lull; ammo shortage is just part of the craziness.

People are stressed and angry. Cases are climbing back up, it's starting to catch some of us at the hospitals now. Buddy of mine diagnosed today; a nurse 2 months away from retirement. We were supposed to go shooting soon, he wanted to shoot his new PPK (and I wanted my son to shoot his Luger and Broomhandle). We have Mausers we want to stretch out. I'm supposed to be watching for a Garand for him.

I'm tired of this year. I have enough ammo to last awhile, but if ammo returns, it means life is returning.
Meh, enough of that cheerfulness ...

<<I'm tired of this year.>>

Hang in there. My wife saw a couple cute pictures... one of them was the Time magazine Person of the Year, it was the Mayhem guy.

And then there was a racoon (which is an anagram of Corona) with his mask, washing his hands. LOL...

If i was younger would be more concerned with the words/images being used against me years from now. Much more than someone trying to locate a physical location for nefarious purposes. Does anyone know for certain where this boards data base is? The "cloud" perhaps? The way searches are done for key words facial recognition now, and the possible future political situation with people digging up things from decades ago would make me consider limiting exposure if i was younger with decades of employment to consider.

Especially digital pictures with your physical image in it holding a firearm.

And yea, it just be an opinion.

I was amazed, back in late April(?), when Midway went from $21.95 per Aguila 22 LR brick to $25.99 per brick out of stock in 3 weeks. I bought a case at $21.95 per brick because it was available, not because of need.

I'm now pushing my expectations back from Christmas, to further into 2021. Nothing is available, and everyone wants "something".

For awhile, if you wanted a firearm, it seemed like the only option was an ugly AR/AK shotgun. Now I'm beginning to see stuff for *******g CROSSBOWS. That tells me the shotgun push is running out. Be thankful you have whatever you do, and you might want to be judicious with how much ammo you burn up.

There is plenty of ammunition available on line. You just have to know where to look. I buy all of my bulk ammunition on line.

Ammoman *
Palmetto State Armory
Cheaper Than Dirt (I know, I know )
Lone Star Gun and Supply
MidwayUSA (I think this company might be pretty low on ammunition because everyone knows who they are)
Classic Firearms **
*
I have been an Ammoman customer for years.

**
I have been a Classic Firearms customer for a long time, too.

There are others. My FFL buddy and I were discussing this just last night and he was reading out of a catalog the various deals out there on ammunition.

Plenty of the less poplar ammo still available on GunBroker, in the last week I purchased 200 rounds each of 6x5x54 and 7.62x54 R.

Having these less poplar calibers can keep you shooting if you didn't prepare for the current madness.

Looking through a catalog for ammo and them having it online are 2 different things. The other day I received 2 catalogs, Midway and Natchez. Just out of curiosity, I checked 10 items each, 9mm, .223 and .308. None were in stock. But they had really good catalog prices.
Just now, Palmetto had one flavor of .223 and one of 9mm. Out of 12 pages. The 9mm was self defense at over 2 bucks a round.
Classic does have a bit. However, I wouldn't say there is plenty of ammo around.

Here in MO same ammo shortage, but luckily I have a bit. A good friend's son just turned 21 and built his first AR, but he had no ammo! I gave him 500 rounds, but I told him I don't want money, just 500 rounds when he can get it.

There is hardly anything, until you get into obscene prices. I glanced at ammoman, and saw Blazer Brass at $465 a case, Wolf steel cased for $360. I know where to find Federal Classic Hi-Shok JHP for less than the Blazer, and about the same as the Wolf. Not sure if it's a full case, but it's $19 a box of 50.

I do see occasional deals on Tula, so I guess that is still shipping... but nothing else from overseas.

I sell ammo where I work. We limit it to two boxes per customer. So then you get the dad to come in with his wife and every family member over age 18, then they come back every day. All this is hoarding, and it makes it so others cannot get ammo they need. Even an older gent comes in every day to buy his limit. Guess what, no ammo left to sell!!!!! The wholesalers have raised prices so much, if I cannot afford to order guns or ammo, and if I did, I would have to sell these ABOVE suggested retail, just to make a few bucks. Not going to do it!!!!!

I love shooting .22 LR - easy on the gun, easy on the ears, easy on the hands, easy on the wallet, and I don't need to break my back picking up the brass. - I reload, but not .22 ;>)

Ammo can still be found if you take the time to shop around. I just picked 550 rounds of 300 BLK on GunBroker for what I consider OK prices for the crazy times we are experiencing.

Shelves are completely bare here and most of my online retailers are also sold out or have to raise prices to keep product available. I've switched to shooting almost 22LR exclusively now until thing relax.

Even primers and powder are extremely difficult to come by now. Shame :/

True, 300 BLK is less in demand, but owning less in demand calibers keeps you on the range. Possibly a lesson for gun owners in the future.

Jeez, I'm one of those new shooters. When I bought my 327, I went to my local Wal-Mart and bought several bricks of .38. The next week or whenever I went to W/M, would buy another, then another. Right now, we've got about 2,000 rounds of .38 and .357.

Last week, my wife and I went to W/M for groceries...Dum-de-dum-dum. Wal-Mart closed out their ammo sales; expanded the camping equipment area with the new available space.

Walmart announced they were stopping handgun ammo sales in December 2019 very old news. You got lucky they were still selling off remaining stock
My area is very heavy gun culture, and literally the week after the announcement all 3 Walmart’s in town were completely out of handgun ammo.
I am lucky we have a ton ( probably about 20) gun shops in driving distance from my house within an hour. Every one is almost bare of inventory both guns and ammo.
Lucky I have enough to get me by ( and happy I reload and have components to keep me going)
But in a year or so, my cupboard will be bare too ( I shoot every week a couple hundred rounds minimum.) speaking of my bread and butter calibers ( 22/380/38/9/45.

Reading all these posts is concerning. If the LGS's have no ammo or guns to sell they can't stay in business for long. This sounds like another way to restrict the Second Amendment.

Interesting here in our local CA Walmarts they took all of their ammo out. But they are displaying gun cleaning materials, holsters, targets and other times. Yeah! Sure!

Are they not getting anything coming in or is demand so high whatever they get in goes out immediately to people that pre-ordered?

I suspect it is much more the latter in which case they the dealers should be OK. The pandemic might have affected production but I think the shortage is mostly due to extremely high demand.

As I've noted before, the shortages are not affecting all dealers equally. The big, high-volume dealers with money to throw around are still doing okay, even thriving. The little guys in many cases have been shut out. My most local dealer can't even get the time of day from the gun and ammo distributors. His ammo rack is empty but for a few obscure hunting rounds and his gun inventory is now mostly high-priced consignment guns.

Best as I can tell, these (mostly new) buyers are not putting in orders with small shops for guns and ammo that may never appear. They tend to want it right now and they are going to the big shops with inventory that can accommodate them.

Same place has Tula 7.62x39 for $210 a case.
Total price for me buying 1 of each, $494 to the door.

I mentioned this on another forum, and got the "but... it's Tula junk" remarks.

I get it, I'd rather have brass too. But I've shot this exact stuff, and it runs in my gun. Just clean it afterwards. I'd rather have a case of Tula in reserve, instead of nothing.
I got news for them. I have fired thousands of Tula rounds with zero problems. Most of these haters have no experience with the products they dont like.Pisses me off

Only reasion I don't shoot some steel cased ammo is the varnish used on them can clog your chamber creating a problem. I also like to reload so no steel for me...but as we say in the Army "smoke em if you got em"

We have used Wolf and Tula here in 9mm, .45, 5.56 and7.62 x 39 with no problems. Better to have anything that will fire out of your weapon that wave around an empty firearm because you are too picky to buy up what you can find when other brands are not available.

Hank Williams sang Yeah My Bucket Got a Hole in It.
I did recently buy these buckets of 22LR.

Really, no.

Steel cased doesn’t conform to the chamber like brass, and allows particles of carbon and unburned propellant to build up between the case and chamber wall.

The result is a lot of “junk” can build up on the chamber walls resulting in jams and misfeeds.
The problem lies in when after firing a bunch of steel case, you then fire brass cased, which will conform to the chamber, causing jams.

Varnish and/or polymer coatings are not the issue, the coating doesn’t “melt” It’s just you can’t fire form steel cased like you can brass.

A good cleaning after every range session will take care of that issue.

Another misconception is that steel cased destroy extractors, I’ve fired thousands of rounds of Wolf out of one of my select fire ARs, I’ve yet to have one fail.
And if it does, so what, at the old prices, I’ve still saved hundreds of dollars by shooting the cheap stuff, extractors are what, $5?

Heck, my MP5s with fluted chambers love the stuff, it’s not as accurate, smells bad, but for dirt shooting does the job!

Nope! Walmart in the Republic of Kalifornia discontinued selling ammo! They were still carrying shotgun ammo for hunting but I believe they removed it also. Can't believe they would have the gall to carry the other items, gun cleaning, holsters, etc..

WalMart everywhere quit selling that evil assault Ammo, from 9mm to 5.56 due to the El Paso WalMart shootings.

I went to Cabela's today. Most shotgun ammo is gone. No buckshot. Was told that they do not expect any buckshot shipments anytime soon. Also said that they are out of .223/5.56 and do not expect any large shipments indefinitely. Told to "buy it when you see it" ..

Yeah, things were horrible at my local Cabela's as well. No pistol ammo except .25 ACP and a handful of very expensive premium big bore revolver rounds. Big joke of the day is that we all have to take out our micro-mini pocket guns if we want to go shooting.

Gun selection was also nil as you can see from the photos I snapped. Basically, just a few Ruger Single Action revolvers and some black powder replicas.

9mm range ammo was available up the road a ways if you really, really needed it... at 60¢/round and up.

This week I’ve been to three small dealers near my home and one medium size about thirty minutes away. Three small dealers had a moderate supply of ammo at higher prices. In some cases ammo was double pre covid prices. Some ammo though was the same.

My medium sized dealer only had some odds and ends of 357 Sig, 25 auto and shotgun in birdshot.

But, guns were back to pure covid stock or better. I was stunned today at my medium size dealer, he had a very respectable inventory of AR platform, AK, Smith revolvers, Ruger of all types, Lever and bolt guns, you name it and they had something at least close to what you’d want.

I think the ammo manufacturers were caught sleeping and they’ll get caught up in the next month or two. Figure the millions of new gun owners, they want one or two boxes of ammo at a minimum for their new guns. It just takes time to get ammo in the pipeline again.

If it is subsonic it can be fired from a rifle in a defensive situation when dealing with a mob without disclosing your location.
