What price would get you to buy .223/5.56 again
.223/5.56 is selling for as high as $350 for a case with 500 rounds. That’s $0.70 per round and $14 for a box of 20.
What does the price need to drop to before your would consider buying .223/5.56.
For me it’s $0.35 per round = $7 per 20 = $175 per 500.

Hahaha well I’m clearly a cheapskate I guess. Last time I bought a case I believe I paid .28 a round, so I figured I would loosen my wallet to answer the question and apparently the lowest choice you gave was .30 a round.
So yeah, I’d pay .30 a round and I’d likely buy two or three thousand at that price.
I have three AR’s and I hardly shoot them. I like them all okay but I’m not a rifle guy. I’m a handgun guy. I load .223 for my prairie dog gun, but I have no desire to handload 5.56 (and case trim, UGH) for a high volume bullet hose.
So it may be a few years until I buy 5.56 again. I estimate about 2,000rds on hand.

$.30/round is as much as I will pay, otherwise I'll reload it. I don't shoot much rifle, 223/5.56 or 308. As Sevens mentioned above, I'm more of a handgun shooter.

My preferred lgs just restocked with AE223BK about a week ago. Due to their limited supply (1 pallet-load) only customers on their waitlist could pick up a full case for $449.00. The rest is being repackaged into 100's for $49, limit 2 bags per customer per day.
It's going fast.

Well, first I would have to buy something that shot it....(which I have no desire to own) and then I would probably reload'
Been there, done that, and it didn't do anything for me, so I dumped the rifle.

Given how much 223/5.56 I have and the rate I shoot it I probably have a lifetime supply. But there are other calibers I will need more of at some point. I could go at least a few years before I run out of anything with no change in how often I shoot. So I am not in a rush but do not want to wait until I really run out.
At this point ammo will have to return to prices that are no more than 15% to 20% higher than what I would have paid 6 months ago before I will buy any. Which would be about $.35/round for .223. Or about $200 for a case of 9mm.
If all goes well in a couple of years prices might go back to what they were 6 months ago. But I think ammo prices 15% higher than that might be the new normal going forward.

This is why one should prioritize buying ammo when they can, not when they have to. If you have less than 10K rounds of your most commonly used calibers, you are likely to be very unhappy if things continue to go sideways.
