What do we know about the ammo manufacturers?

I know Federal is selling direct, any word on the other makers? Is Tula cranking out ammo, or are those occasional deals we see just stockpiles being liquidated?

I actually hadn't noticed because I've been buying ammunition by the case since the last Ammo Panic ended. As soon as people started talking "Ammo shortage" I quit looking.

I did find a case of 9mm I didn't know I had while I was cleaning out a closet

I have no idea as I gave up looking for ammo, probably until 2021. I probably will not actually NEED any until a few years after that because I have enough to get by. I did manage to pick up some W231 at $22.99 a Lbs from a local gun shop. That seemed to be a normalish price to me.

I heard that Walmart had 20% of the ammo market. And massive purchasing power.
No one else can make up that slack.

My neighbor's wife had purchased a 9mm semi auto and couldn't find amy ammo for it. Her husband came over and I gave him a 50 round box. Then a few internet dealers where they probably would find some self defense ammo. Luckily for them the starts aligned and they managed to find some.
Wally world has no 22's and not much in anything else except shotgun shells. Mostly birdshot but a few boxes of slugs and buckshot. And since they no longer sell handgun ammo that left only one gun shop in town that had any ammo.Frank

I just tried to order a few boxes of CCI Blazer 38 gr .22LR from TargetSports. I got shut out as the inventory went from a listed 99 plus to zero in less time than it took me to enter my credit card info on my Smart Phone. This really drove home how real this shortage is for me...

That is my feeling. Massive purchasing power, distribution power and prices (without crazy shipping costs) that people could readily afford. And no need to save up for a bulk buy.

At least you have one shop. My town has zero. Buy even the surrounding area's shops are all out of handgun and MSR ammo.

My best bets remain Bass Pro and Cabela's, but they are dry too. Later today, I'm going to hit a couple shops down in Little Rhody and see if I can find some ammo for my recent "oddball caliber" purchases.

Yeah, TSUSA has become kind of a joke as of late with its new members-only restricted buying and its on-the-fly price changes and its advertised prices exploding when something actually does come back into stock. Plus you can sign up for phone and e-mail alerts that you will never get... God, what a bad joke.

They were great before the craziness and they will probably be fine again if/when the craziness ever ends, but I have given up on them for the time being.

Returned again to my local Bass Pro this morning. No improvement. Zero handgun ammo except for some 32s behind the counter. No slugs or buckshot. Hardly any rifle ammunition. The only calibers with some options appear to be 300 Magnums. I lucked into a few boxes of my 30-06 ammo today, mainly because I arrived early it and it's a pricier version, but as I was checking the boxes a found out some loser had palmed a round out of one box. So just to remind everyone, especially during these crazy buying frenzies, check the boxes before you leave the store and make sure they're full...

I see lots of rifle and shotgun ammo in my area but very little if any handgun ammo. Visited family in Northern Indiana over Labor Day and the largest and nicest LGS in the area had handgun ammo (9mm FMJ at $27.99 per box). And their handgun counters were very well stocked. Separately, I picked up 1050 rounds of 40SW today from an LE. Not a bad deal at just over $17 per box (deal included 200 rounds of Fed Prem LE).

Had to go to the former Gander Mtn in Roanoke, VA. They had 53 boxes (50 rd) of LRN 32 S&W Long by Aguila... at $22.99 a box... and a lot of empty shelves.

Default 2k 556 purchase from Natchez, 23 May 2018

I'm not buying any ammo right now. Like others here have already stated, I learned my lesson from the last ammo panic. I couldn't remember what I had paid for my last 556 2k rounds purchased from Natchez so I looked it up. This panic will pass as well...

Got lucky today. Stopped into my local Dunhams JUST as they were unloading their meager latest shipment of ammo. She had 12 boxes of 9mm, so i bought 4(the most they'd sell me) at $13.99 ea. Still no 30-30 or non premium .22lr. They did have 20 or so boxes of .40S&W

This week Iíve seen ammo on the shelves in my local stores. Some prices are a bit high and the selection is tight but ammo is there. Iíve also seen more guns at local dealers.

Out in Poduck seems Ammo crisis hasn’t hit hard as city & on line. Plenty of 9mm at $20 per 50/ only double price, 223 about same double. Standard deer gun ammo is ok and just couple bucks higher. For some reason 38sp is in short supply.

Cabelas locally has been on bare shelves for months. In the meanwhile, a work friend traveled recently to our satellite sites in northern WV (the panhandle) and stopped by the huge Cabelas there (which is a distribution warehouse, also). Said he saw a tractor-trailer with pallets of ammo being unloaded at the rear of the building. Not going to the local store, at least not yet. Local small chain and mom-n-pop stores are still on slim pickin's.

My local dealer in Naples, FL was told last week by his ammo distributor to place an order for April delivery and he was perfectly serious. Supposedly, there are thousands of first time gun owners who sucked everything from the shelves upon purchasing their new guns.

Not sure I agree with this.

Was a long time before I started buying ammo by the case.

I set up at a show this afternoon and walked by a couple of different vendor tables on my way home. Saw steel 7.62x39 at $1.25-1.50 per round. Hard to believe they will get it but.....

Unhappy Ammo Cost

$1.25-$1.50 per round may well have been a bargain on November 4th!

I finally got around to organizing my boxes of firearm related stuff after my move last year. I found more ammo than I thought I had, plus my stash of slugs for the shotgun, and my spare magazines and speedloaders. So 2020 is getting better for me.

Both of the LGS's I frequent have been buying ammo from their distributors at retail just to have some to make available to customers who buy a gun . . .

Got all excited last night when someone responded to my WTT ad on armslist and said he had 749 SPP to trade. Hey, Iíll take them!

Same here, I've never been a stocking ammo dealer but after Walmart quit selling handgun ammo I made sure to have a few boxes on hand in the common calibers. So now I'm buying at retail to have some available for new handgun buyers.

CCI Blazer 9mm FMJ has been selling for $230 per 500 on GunBroker in the last few days, down $100 or so in just the last week.
CCI Blazer 9mm Luger 115gr FMJ 500 rounds - Pistol Ammunition at GunBroker.com : 878442795

This is only one example, but it's probably representative of more auctions if I spent more time looking. Knowing how GunBroker works with the 1000's of guys just sitting watching auctions and swooping in on any good deals, I find it unlikely this auction went unnoticed. Point being, I'm hoping this means the great ammo panic of 2020 is ending.

We just drove from Southern Ohio to North Georgia, stopping at several gun shops on the way(including Buds Gun Shop). VERY limited ammo, hardly any 223, very little 9mm if any. The shop that had the most(still no 9mm) was Appalachian Gun in Jasper, GA. Had lots of bulk 223, 500rds for $325. I found some 30-30 at a pawn shop; NO store had ANY.

Since my post a week ago, the same CCI Blazer "training" ammo has sold for $359/500 and $199/250 for Buy-it-Now on Gunbroker. No telling how high it would have gone in an auction. So I guess that particular auction was a fluke. There's yet no sign of prices letting up. <sigh...>

The guy who said I ain’t going to buy anymore rifles just bought a rifle.
LH Savage Axis 223.
So I’m on the prowl for 223.
Got 700 rounds headed this way, probably should buy more.

I still can't find my favorite fodder, CCI Blazers, but recently I was able to score a case of Aguila 40 grain copper wash bullets and two cases of Eley Action Plus. The Eley will be available again tomorrow and only cost a few dollars more than the Blazers or Aguila.

Yeah, it's going up and down like a yo-yo. You've got to watch it closely to score relative bargain ammo on GB.

It's always interesting when someone scores locally at a pre-COVID price or close, but those great scores are few and far between and often quantity limited to as little as 1 or 2 boxes.

I'm not seeing any lasting trends at this time.

Right now, I'd say things have gotten worse. Earlier, it seemed like you could maybe land a deal here and there, if you timed it just right. Now, there doesn't seem to be much of anything around.

I do not see any significant improvement until until the middle of next year.
Will get worse before it gets better.

Am considering removing a few of my guns out of the safe to make room for ammo, which will be harder to replace than the guns if stolen.

500 Rds 9/20/2020 10:18 PM $439

In my estimation, prices for 5.56 are between holding steady and getting a bit more expensive. Lots of auctions closing at above $400 for a 500 round case

Here's a list of my 9MM FMJ purchases of 50 round boxes (all online) over the past five months:

6/6/20
Speer Lawman 124gr $16
PMC Bronze 124gr $17
Winchester 147gr $17.50
Federal Syntec 150gr $17
6/7/20
Norma 115gr $13
Winchester 147gr $14
6/14/20
Sig Sauer 124gr $19
9/21/20
Sig Sauer 115gr $16
10/13/20
Federal AE 115gr $24
10/21/20
Federal AE 115gr $25

The lowest I have seen online recently was Norma 115gr for $26.
A big LGS near me is selling 115gr range ammo, probably reman cause it's in plain boxes of 50, for $50.

I just checked some prices..... 9m/m fmj $40-$42 per 50, .45ACP fmj $50. per 50, .380 fmj $80. per 50, .22LR $9.-$10 per 50. I hope it gets cheaper because I'm broke and a long way from home. Larry

My Walmart removed all guns and ammo from their shelves for the election. They put it back out Saturday and this stuff turned up. It was all the 22 they had. I bought it.

I recently got Aguila Super Extra HV 40gr CPRN 250 round boxes for $22 and CCI MiniMag 36gr CPHP 100 round boxes for $11. Also Winchester 36gr CPHP 333 box for $26.

You can't find any 22LR these days less than 15 cents.

Still pretty dry here, too. Not many LGSs locally, and I don't check in very often, but when I do, there's almost nothing. I'm hoping we've hit the bottom, and supply will stabilize soon, but wouldn't count on it.
Even my public range, which was awash with 223 and pistol brass a couple of months ago, is getting clean. The fires may have something to do with that, and there are still small piles of brass from hunters sighting in, but it sure ain't what it used to be. I'm set for a while, and winter's coming on, so I'll be able to not shoot for several months. Just doing my part to help ;-).

I just bought 10 bx CCI mini mags at <$7.00/bx and 3x Aguila HV bricks at $30 each. That was a lgs' online special this month. It sold out in 10 minutes. I was lucky to get what little I got so I'm not complaining.

On our local board someone just offered up 2 bricks of Aguila for $80 each. Even at that price I would hang on to what I have.

I lucked out by going to a few of our local Walmart's and finding some .22 for sale. By going to more than one store over a few days I was able to pick up enough to keep me going for a while.

I left lots of ammo at each store so others can enjoy shooting as well.

I can't speak to the availability of ammo in my community because I do all my buying online. But if you peruse the usual online suppliers, you will notice that there is virtually nothing out there right now, except for a very few places that are scalping ammo at ridiculous prices.

This shortage is going to get even worse before it starts to recover. And we will likely never again see prices as low as they were before the end of last year.

I keep my eye on my favorite online suppliers but it is not looking good right now and there is nothing to lead me to believe that things will get better any time soon.

Thank God I bought a lot of factory ammo in 2018 and 2019, and I mean a lot! I should be set for several years. And I have at least 50,000 primers and projectiles on hand for the various calibers for which I reload.

I will hope for the best but I expect the worse as far as ammo supplies and prices are concerned.

Its not like this hasnít happened before.

2008 - the great ďHeís gonna take our guns!Ē panic. Didnít happen. Things returned to normal.

2012 - Sandy Hook. The sky didnít fall. Things returned to normal.

2020 - I need ammo to shoot a virus panic. Things briefly returned to normal.

2020 - George Floyd/BLM/Antifa madness. This too shall pass. The likelihood of legislation clearing the Senate is nil.

2022 - The party in the WH loses seats in the House and Senate, as always. Panic should be well and truly over.

Relax.

I handload so I don’t typically buy centerfire ammo. When I buy rimfire, it’s in bulk, online. Been a while since I did that.

I visited the largest local huge gun store. 3 locations in town and another about 80 miles away. This is a large, successful gun store chain.

No .45 ACP range ammo in stock. A -lot- of .40cal Blazer Brass but I didn’t catch the price.

Two prices I did catch...
9mm Blazer Brass 124gr was $27.99 per box before tax, WOW.

And they had 20-round boxes of 5.56, Frontier brand, I think it was $13.99 per box before tax, it may have been more.

A little crazy.
