Was at a LGS yesterday browsing and the price for 50 rounds of 9MM 115 FMJ in a plain white box of unknown manufacture was $50. I was afraid to ask how much they wanted for defensive ammo. The last reasonably priced ammo I was able to find in September I was on the Sig Sauer website and they had 9MM 115gr FMJ at $16.10 a box. In the few minutes it took to place my order and receive a confirmation email from Sig it was sold out. I got my order via FedEx in 4 days.

I've recently fired 120 round of Tulammo 223 steel case which I swore I would NEVER do!! but I decided last fall I was going to get acquainted with my rifles, and now I am rather addicted, I had a 5 to 6 inch group at 300 yds, so not to bad!
It functions flawlessly in my rifle, but I've got some 5 rd aluminum ASC mags, and it will NOT feed the top round, the bolt overrides the top round because it is so dang tight, tried loading 4 rounds but had a round not got off on the first firing pin strike?? but it went on the second... so ammo is still being manufactured and shipped, the Federal was 11 bucks a box...

Potential sign of relief- I saw the other day on Bass Pro's site that Herter's 9mm brass range ammo was listed at $11.99 a box/50, and was listed as "in stock" at the one near my house (no online purchase, and not at the Cabela's near me).
Now, near me means about 35 miles away, and I don't know if "in stock" means 1 box or 50. And I have I sufficient supply of 9 currently; I have 2k of just this particular stuff that I got for $8.99 earlier this year. So I didn't go searching.
But I then saw someone else mention the same deal on another forum, and another Bass Pro, and they stated they got a case or so. So that means it's out there.
It's been stated before, but if a chain like Bass Pro can get ammo in sufficient quantity and price it low, it will drive the market back down. I can't see them randomly sell it at half the price they could, unless they had stuff in the pipeline about to come in... and let's be honest, people would easily pay $20+ a box if they wanted some.
Herter's; it says on the box "made in USA". I think we have pinned that down as Winchester, right? It doesn't look like Blazer stuff, and it almost definitely isn't Remington. And it's not Fiocchi's domestic, at least it doesn't look like theirs.

Not hurting for ammo in any way, but I still like to go to the nearby big name store to see what's in stock. Paid them a visit last week and was pleasantly surprised to see Fiocchi 10mm jhp at a pre-panic price. Bought the limit of 4 boxes (50 rd). I think I'll go back again this afternoon to see if they still have any.
Btw...also bought some 22 Mag. at pre-panic price

I was just at a local gun show. Ammo is scarce!! Ammo that is available is more than $1 per round!! Popular calibers are hard to find, too. I guess one needs to "diversify" your gun locker and war chest to a wide variety because you will never know what is available. I thought "reloading my own" would be the way to go ... but I was told by a dealer that reloading components are getting scarce, too. The makers are selling their product to the major ammo manufacturers --at profit..so "whatever" is left over is being sold to reloaders. This month's NRA mag suggests that the normal cache of ammo you should keep "on hand" is a supply for 10 years!!!! WOW!!!

That dollar a round will seem cheap next year when it's two dollars a round or more. Think it can't happen......did you ever expect to see it at a dollar a round?

Poking around our local Dunhams today, saw shelves full of various mfg's 9mm at around $13 per box of 50 (115 gr FMJ's). Price seems somewhat higher than last year, but not into the "gouger" range. Being the cheap person that I am, I already reload for 9mm and I didn't buy any. I sure hope that I don't have future regrets for passing it up. -S2

You can buy 45 acp from CMP for $393 a case, shipped.
That is less than .40 cpr.
Best,

Been checking every week or so and it still showed 10/15/20 ship date. Can't wait, ammo will finally be here next week!
Checked today, and SG just updated the expected ship date of my order to 1/23/21. Argh! This has to be a new record for backorder time for Wolf steel **** ammo - 7 months!

Well they did today-10-23, do as I expected, change ship date to 11-8-20, which has me wondering why?, this is just a week and half after the ship date of 10-31- that I have been seeing for a few months. If they do ship them now, at least I'll get them for a decent price for what they have been selling for lately, but still not the best. For now I will take it though.
Update--11-03 Perfect timing (LOL)--I got elected today to have my 2 orders changed again, going from June to 10-31 to 11-8 to now, 1 order to 1-16-21 and 1 order to 1-28-21. Made no sense to me why they even put the change to 11-8 in there. Well if the prices keep going like I see at some sites, and here in Florida at some places I know and bought from, I can just cancel both orders and buy them here.

Speaking of backorders... has anyone backordered from Optics Planet (ammo)?
I've got a couple of non-ammo things from them, it took awhile but eventually it shipped. They say they don't charge until it ships, so I consider it (and backordering from Sportsman's Guide) as a manner of finding a price I like, and securing it. They have some pretty cheap steel-cased Tula 308 listed for backorder, that my Cetme would eat, for the nice price of $369 for 1k. I like shooting steel in the Cetme anyway, so if I can tie that price in and it eventually comes, I will be happy.
In late spring, I did something of the sort with Bass Pro, ordering stuff for decent (Herter's brass 9mm for $180 a case), that took a long while to ship. Well, it all eventually came in, 2 cases of Herters and a case of Federal Aluminum for the same price. That's when people were getting angry about backorders, instead of realizing prices would skyrocket and you might want to lock the price in while you could.

Stopped by my local LGS.. he had shelves full of ammo and at half price of anything you can find online..
I appreciate his restraint on gouging..

Just a data point: Bi-Mart store in the mid-Willamette Valley, Oregon, had a handful of 50-round boxes of CCI Blazer Brass 9mm 115 gr. FMJ for $12.75 a box. Limit two per person. It was the only handgun ammo they had. It was gone an hour later (my friend dashed over and got the last two boxes, right behind two other guys).
I really only wanted to bring it up because Bi-Mart does NOT appear to be gouging on price, in spite of the shortage, and that's a good thing. I believe that's a typical price for Blazer Brass around here, or at least not much higher.
