That's a respectable stash! I don't have nearly that much ammo on hand, but I am loaded with components. After Sandy Hook happened it was close to a year before you could find any reloading supplies. Once it started coming back I made it a point to buy either a pound of powder or a brick of primers every week. I am so glad I did!

That top shelf looks like it is sagging under the weight.

So that's where it is!!! Stopped by the local Sportsman's Warehouse on Friday just to walk through guns, fishing and camping sections. Absolutely NO ammo on the shelves. Plenty of shotgun shells. Wonder if the availability of shotgun shells has increased sale of shotguns? They had some revolvers and pistols for sale so assume they keep some ammo in the back for those who purchase a firearm.
I have enough on hand for my needs but will do some self rationing when going to range.
Checked out the fishing and camping sections but nothing I couldn't live without. The archery section was doing a good business.

Is a safe a safe place for large quantities of ammo in a fire? Would it ever get hot enough inside to set it off?

Folks tend to say it's not a great idea... but at current prices, I don't blame anybody for putting it in a locked safe!

Mine says UL Fire Safe rated to inside temp not higher than 350 degrees for 32 minutes in a 1200 degree fire.
Fire station is two minutes away from my house with a hydrant close by, I feel safe storing all that will fit in mine.
Blackpower. primers and pistol powder stored in a cabinet in another room, naturally.

I'm sure this topic has been dead horse beaten with a stick but I'm convinced this shortage has been exacerbated by the 'one click purchasing power of internet on-line sales to your door' phenomenon, like no other.
I mean who hasn't checked ammoseek, just to see what is available?
Consumers can now purchase bulk ammo with a click of a button, so supplies get depleted very quickly.
It's the price we pay for the wonders of the new millennium, ayep

I can’t imagine burning high dollar safe real estate with range fodder ammo. That’s where guns live.

Why didn't you just buy 8 lbs of powder every 4 months and save some money?
I stopped buying powder by the lb a long time ago.

Good point, but I have more cash invested in my small stash of ammo than I do in my firearms. And most of it was purchased when ammo was cheap.

I concur, my valuable safe space is for Buffalo Bore and other high dollar ammo, practice ammo is in 50cal cans spread around gun room.

Used to be $189 for 1000, the good old days may NEVER be back

Nice safe
I'm afraid I'd need a bigger one.
Without doing an inventory count, I have 15 or so 50 cal ammo boxes, and other 8 30 cal. I've discovered that if I want to keep stuff in the boxes, I don't have enough to store everything .
I've got 9mm, .45 acp, .32 acp, 9x18 Makarov, in handgun. For some reason I have about 100 rds of .40 S&W (half are JHP), a box of .38 Special and a box of .38 S&W, and I don't have anything in them.
Then for rifles, I have .223/5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51/.308 (for my semiautos), and 7.62x54R, 7.65x53 Argentine, and 8mm Mauser for bolt. Have 30-30 for the Winchester lever gun.
A goodly few bricks of 22lr, and then a good amount of 12 gauge. That includes a case each of the Challenger Mini's in both target/birdshot, and in slugs, from when Brownell's was clearing them out (they run great in my Shockwave).

Next Spring, when the media declare the crisis and hunting season is over, how many will “buy cheap, stack deep?” I got several 1K rd cases of 9mm @$169, .38spl +P Ranger Win@299, .223 55gr and 62gr, same price with $50 rebates. .22 lr 5250 rd cases were $199 w/$40 rebates, wish I bought 10 instead of 2. When I needed a new A/C system in July, I questioned my judgement. Now, not so much. Last “crunch” I sold enough to have thousands of rds “free.” This time that ain’t happening. Joe

Next spring it could be much, much worse, no guarantee anything will be back to "normal"
Everyone could be living under California gun rules, think about that
No on-line buying of any ammo, ammunition purchasing licenses with background checks, etc

What did Oddball say? (Kelly's Heroes) "Always with the negative waves, Moriarty." Life will be "normal" again, soon. How long do "bull markets" last in the stock market? 10 years. How long do "bear markets" last? 10 days. Joe

Nothing like the large amounts above, but I walked in to the VERY old gun store in town browsing for a 223 bolt action. Walking past the ammo (they had a decent supply) I found one box of CCI 22LR Sub-Sonic. It was $9.99 The box looks super old, but it is sealed. Grabbed it right up so I have it when my suppressor gets here that will fit my M&P AR-15-22. Will check other parts of the forum to see if this ammo will cycle the gun. I feel so lucky I may purchase a lottery ticket too.

I have managed to obtain eight pound containers of both Power Pistol and 800X. Unfortunately, my LGS almost never has eight pounders in stock. Ordering online and having it shipped to my house is problematic because my work hours vary so much. I always thought it was goofy that an ammo delivery doesn't require a signature, but somehow primers/powders do.
