What happened to bulk ammo?
I am sure this sounds crazy but when we went out west from July to the end of Sept we were totally or almost totally off grid. When I left ammo prices were high but I could still get just about anything I wanted from certain on- line stores where I pay a member fee for reduced prices and free shipping.
As a curiosity, based on comments, I went to that site last night and the had NO / zero handgun ammo in stock aside from a 45 GAP and some very expensive SD ammo. I am glad I have what I have.. “plenty”. But it seems if I can’t get free shipping because there is nothing to buy I have wasted my money. I have never seen annoying in this state of affairs. Kudos to hand loaders!

Off grid for the past 90 days or so?
The past 3 months have been a long year
Ammo is out there , but you have to be in the right place/time to get qtys.
I dont know the NE area of Ohio well , however in Central Oh , I would suggest researching "Vances Outdoors".
When they re-stock , its usually in sizable qtys , of course it goes quickly..... Unfortunately they will no longer accept online orders, as they dont have a "realtime" inventory system in place.
EDIT: I just check their web page , they have recently put a max daily limit of 2 boxes per customer , per day.. Apologies..

The CCI Blazer Brass Bulk we USED to pay $169/K for is now $320 + (depending where/who has it.) I don't even look at 223/5.56!
I've been buying 12/20 ga. shotshells and 308 Win when I see at good/sale prices locally. The 308 is starting to become scarce as well.
Prices for primers and bullets have gone up to crazy amounts-especially primers. I'm fortunate to have what I have and will weather the storm as long as I can. My range trips are down to zero, so I'm not using ammo or supplies right now.
I went to 2 gun shops near me a week ago; one shop had a LOT of 9mm ball/range ammo in stock-3 different brands-$30/box 50. Stopped at another shop-$50/box 50!! As long as I have components, I won't pay those kind of prices. Until we get a handle on this COVID-19 situation, I'm not shooting anyway :-(

Local shop has pallets of ammo. That CCI BBrass is $500/1K, .223 is $1/rd much as you can afford. Owner has been flying out to buy around the SE US, still profitable even adding the expenses. You should see his gun prices. Joe

Went to the st jo Missouri gun show yesterday. About a 200 table show. One dealer had 125 new in the box ar15s @$575 each. Same dealer had a pallet of 9mm and a pallet of 223. 223 was $750/1000. Plenty of hand guns other ammo and rifles of all flavors on the other Tables too. No shortage there. Some prices high some reasonable. Saw a used S&w model 41 @ $940 and a used S&w 3T model 17 @$850.

Last time I was in a Fin Feather Fur store they had a limit of 1 box of handgun ammo per caliber per person per day. 5.56x45/.223 was a pair of smaller boxes, or a single 100 round box.
I never have time to even use the range at a relatives house, so the little bit of ammo I have just sits in boxes while I travel the country for work in all sorts of medical labs.

I’ll have to check around. It was in short supply 2-3 months before I left but I had never seen Target USA full out of all FMJ. Maybe the site was not functioning. I have also used Ammo Seek a lot but didn’t check it since I’ve been back.
Anyway it definitely worse than when I left.

Even 22lr price is skyrocketting! And powder, and primers! When is it gonna end?I should have stocked when a pound of powder and 1000 primers and a brick of .22lr ammo were each at around $20.And no,I'm not referring to the 1970's prices.Just 2005!
Looks like inflation hit us shooters harder than the rest of the population!

I have plenty of ammo. I am just amazed at the cost. I bought S&B 115gr FMJ in August 2019 at $169 / case of 1000 shipped. 16.9 cents a round. That is $8.50 a box. I am sure I bought Gecco at $750 a box but not from the seller I just referenced. At the time I was just buying good deals when they came up. I bought more than I may ever need (ever) so I sold some back in May and June before I left to my local LGS on consignment. The amount of actual ammo that is out there has to be extraordinary. When supplies do finally catch up I doubt that the 9mm at $8.50 per box will look like attractive. I would suspect that type of range ammo will be down in the $5 to $6 a box range. No one will need it. This is textbook supply and demand playing out before our eyes.

"What happened to bulk ammo?"
It was bought in bulk, in excess of supply and production capabilities, and sellers are charging replacement cost plus. A few months and we will know if current prices are temporary (mostly meaning demand drops) or more permanent.

We have to remember the literally millions of new firearms owners over the last 6-8 months. They had nothing to start with. If they only purchased one box of 50, we are talking 100,000+ cases or more right there.

1) Plenty of bulk ammo if you are willing to pay market prices
2) Not much available below market.
1 and 2, above, both make good sense

I learned after Sandy Hook and built a bank of primers, powder, and bullets. If I need anything for a handgun I just go down to my basement and load some up. With Arthritis limiting my use of handguns. I can't hold anything longer that a 4 inch revolver and racking a slide can be rather painful. Good news is I'm not burning up any handgun ammo so have enough on hand for anything smaller than a limited Battle.
Good news I can still shoot my Shotguns and have been learning Skeet since mid summer. So nearly all of my reloading at present is shotgun ammo and those supplies are still available. Note, this means that # 7.5, 8, & 9 shot are available, buckshot in any size is unobtainium. However at 30 feet or less a full load of #8 is devastating, so for those looking for home defense loads really should consider a "bird load" if they cannot find Buck. It really will do the job because a 1 1/8 load of shot in a pattern about 1-2 inches in diameter will bore a large hole thru any "meat target".

Some of those large pellet sized turkey loads sure would do it. I have some BBB that came with a shotgun I purchased.

Stopped by Gander Outdoors on Saturday while running errands. Lots of shotgun shells. Only .22 was Aquilar shorts and only center fire handgun was 32 S&W Long.

Foreign primers are on the ocean from Europe headed for Savannah, GA by ship. Hope is on the horizon.

If they have it retail stores are 600-700 for 1000 rounds of 9mm in my area. My locally frequented LGS has not had 9mm or anything else for quite awhile. Did see some of the Golden Bear 223 for 10 per box. Crazy times for sure. That said I have seen some of the local online guys dropping 9mm to the 20 per box range.

Wally world used to be the place to go to for bulk ammo in the value packs. Decent ammo and I never had a problem with 38spl,40 S&W,45acp and the occasional few boxes of 357 magnum. So to be politicallt correct they stopped selling any and all handgun ammo as well as 5.56,7.62x39, 7.65x54r.We have only one gun shop in town. So he started stocking up to take up the slack. Then you have an election in November which always causes a run on guns and ammo. Then the snowflakes decide to get a gun for self defense.Social unrest, and to top it off the chinese virus. So right now everybody and his brother is out looking for guns and ammo. Historically before elections folks would stock up on powder, primers, bullets and what ever they felt was needed. Having another three groups doing the same and what do you get??. Dealers cannot stock their shelves fast enough that is if they get the stuff from the distributors, Just a vicious circle. Frank

Just went to a WM that had been over-stocked on 308 Win for the past month-all gone!! Not much in shotshells either. Looks pretty scarce, glad I picked up what I could, when I did :-(
