Default IMR SR4759

At a garage sale, I bought a large box of reloading supplies. There are 2 1lb cans of IMR4759 powder. I don't have a clue what cartridges can be loaded with this powder. I reload 44mag, 357mag, 9mm, 30-06, 45 colt and 223. Anyone familiar with this powder?

It was discontinued several years ago. 4759 was and still is very popular with rifle cast bullet shooters in many cartridges like the .308, .30-06, .45-70, etc. It probably has other limited uses. Some loading manuals would be the best source of information.

As rockquarry said, SR-4759 has been discontinued, but I still see it on some dealer's shelves. Check Lyman manuals (#48 or #49 - I haven't purchased #50 yet so don't know what's there) for loading information. In addition to loading for cast bullets, it can also be used for "reduced loads" with jacketed bullets.
It is an outstanding powder for cast bullets in rifles and is my personal favorite for that use. I have sufficient inventory of that powder to see me through the end of days!
Hope that helps.

SR 4759 did not work out well for me in 38 and .357 Magnum loads.
I did get a 158 gr lead WC up to 1120 fps with it for a target load
back in 2018 that was fair for a plinking load.

It has been used in my 22/250 for reduced loads with some 55 gr bullets for the kids in the family for the range.

It has it's use...........

Have fun.

Excellent powder for reduced rifle rounds. I've loaded several .308 Win rounds with it.

Odd looking for a smokeless powder, black and chunky.

Savage recommended it and 1680 for use in their "Smokeless" muzzle loaders.

I still have two or three of lbs, really hate that it was discontinued.
