Lots of 40S&W everywhere
I was in town today so I stopped by 3 of the stores we have in town that sell ammo. No pistol ammo in stock really except for 40S&W. One of the stores had almost half a shelf worth. I know that 40 cal has lost some favor and most of the newbie's have bought 9mm's but I was honestly surprised to see so much available. So, that's one big advantage it has over the others. It may not be your favorite caliber anymore but at least it's available.

I carry a Springfield EMP3-.40S&W and also have the EMP4-.40
I also recently purchased a S&W 610-3 so I kinda like the caliber-and you are correct that it is either waning in popularity or none of the new shooters are considering the caliber.
I have always like .40 and for the most part during the Obama years it was almost always available when other calibers were non existent.

No 40 Cal in my area, wish there was! Maybe you should pick up a 40 handgun and take advantage of the availability?

this is the reason I have 9MM, 40 cal and 45,I might have to add a few cals to round out the stable. If you have multiple cals you are more likely to find ammo for one of them.

Have to admit, the last few months I wish I still had my Glock 23. .357Sig and 9mm conversion barrels would've been nice, too.

In my area, .40 S&W has been the last of the "popular" handgun calibers to sell out of existing stock. That's when you know things are bad. Then you have to wait for whatever comes in and grab it quick or lose it.
I've been making fairly frequent morning visits to my nearby Bass Pro during the crisis and, less frequently, to Cabelas. About a third of the time, something comes in overnight. But it's rarely something I want or need.
The last thing that showed up in any quantity was some Winchester .357 Magnum in 125 Gr JHP, something I didn't need. But I have scored a little .38 Special and .45 ACP in my morning visits, not that I really needed any more of the latter.
I still can't find .32 S&W Long at a semi-reasonable price... and my 9mm 124 Gr is impossible to find anywhere.

I can’t understand the people that turn up their nose at 40 and go buy a bunch of 9mm. Is it because it’s trendy to hate 40 now?

My daily concealed carry gun is a Glock 10 mm. I carried a Glock 23 .40 S&W in the line of duty and still have the gun. My department supplied ammunition for either 9mm or .40 S&W. Being that .40 S&W has approximately 50% more kinetic energy than a 9mm it was an easy decision for me. My theory is, carry the most powerful cartridge with the largest magazine capacity that you can engage quickly and effectively.

Plenty of brass cased FMJ .40 S&W available online if you want to spend $40 for a box of 50.
This is more than triple the price in the first week of March.
