In 2006 I had an annual training budget of 12,000 rounds.
That was centerfire.
I will shoot something like 2500 rounds this year, more than half of that rimfire.

I don't think I would be discussing my "arsenal" on the internet. Might move the poster to the top of the list, when the United Nations firearm recovery wagon is in the neighborhood.
Best,

I would have to respectfully disagree with your assessment.
A virus that is highly contagious with a low mortality rate cannot be controlled in a free country. Only countries in which it's citizens are not free, just subjects, can control the spead of the virus.

Once these high prices and shortages calm down a federal or state tax on ammo is next. Then a tax on the ownership on assault weapons.

By the time that starts, I will have bought my bus, buried it, and stocked it very well.

I’m not worried about me shooting ammo wise I’m thinking about the family shooting in there lifetime with the grandson.
I need an old freezer or fridge to store powder and primers.

The very same thing could/can be said about the highly contagious fear of 2nd amendment restrictions. The last fear cycle started with the same shift in governance in a previous election cycle. And, may I point out, that fear cycle ebbed even after that previous shift in governance. Time to take a deep breathe folks... This too will pass.

I have the primers and powder but I don't hoard bullets. I do have a Lee 20# bottom pour lead pot and a half a dozen appropriate molds. They take up less room (and are lighter) than hoarding 20,000 bullets.

I hoarded lead a number of years ago, but the supply is dwindling. Here, wheel weights aren't lead any more. Lead prices online make buying bullets more cost effective than casting myself.

Yeah... Weatherby raised their ammo prices a few days ago. After cutting them a year or so ago...

I saw a TV commercial yesterday about ammo at a local (actually 50 miles away) gun store. They were advertising 115 gr. 50 rd. boxes of brass 9mm FMJ at $13.99 a box, NO LIMIT! My friend stopped by there today and picked up 6 boxes for me and he bought 12 for himself. He said they had 6 pallets full! And, when that sells out there will be more!
Below is a pic of it.

Is that all you bought? I'da stretched my CC to the max on that deal.
I rounded up all the oddball boxes of .22 ammo that I *ahem* "accumulated" over the years and put it out for sale on a local forum for a dime a round, basically. Took that money and plowed it right back into a fresh, full case of CCI SV at my LGS at about a dime a piece. Basically just turned 5000 rounds of mixed bag .22 that I probably would never shoot for 5000 rounds of good quality .22 that my guns like. I'll take that deal any day.
A year ago I would have sold all that junk for $200 and would have been happy to get it.

It's all I could afford. Being on Medicare (SSDI) the money just doesn't roll in.

Sorry, no offense intended. Glad you could get some reasonably priced ammo.
9mm is not available at retail stores here--my LGS has a months long waitlist and a 5 box limit. On the local forum range ammo is trading around 80-90 cents per round. A small local shop had some Remington ball ammo for $15 a box online, it sold out in less than 10 minutes.

It's all good.
Hopefully this time next month they will still have ammo.
I can't believe the online prices on ammo. I have NEVER seen the prices this high!

I agree. If you can get them. Last time I checked it was about the same cost to buy from Rotometals and cast them vs. buying them. Of course not counting one's time. But I just looked yesterday intending to order some bullets. My favorite vendor is closed (SNS Casting in Illinois) and everybody else is 10-12 weeks. Might have to fire up the pot!
Plus I have that .41 full wadcutter mold I've been meaning to try....

About 4 weeks ago I paid $90. for 3 boxes of .32 Auto. Yesterday I didn't see any for sale. I waited too long too buy but since there is none available now I believe I got a bargain. If next week they are for sale at 3 boxes for $10. I'll just laugh and say it's not the first time I've thrown away $80. Larry

Do not expect anything to go down. Biden and his VP are both blatantly anti-gun. All of my pro gun groups have been fighting Biden for many years. Expect things to get worse, rather than better. I am a life member of NRA & GOA. I get much more info from GOA. I suggest joining them and donating to them. NRA has all sorts of things to do, and discounts, but I rarely get info from them showing that they are protecting my 2A right.

Kinda sorta similar situation here only with .32 S&W Long. I didn't realize how tough it is to find .32 S&W Long at a semi-affordable price. I had to pay $28 for my first box of 50 and weeks later I found 2 more boxes at a different shop for $27/box. That's too expensive for me to build up a decent stash and so there went my plan to pick-up a couple more vintage .32 S&W revolvers before year's end.
The sad part is that I could have picked up a case of 500 PPU RNL rounds for around $200... $20/box. Stupid me, I hesitated thinking I could do a little better... and then it was gone.

The prices we are seeing now are panic prices. This is not the new normal. Every time there is a shortage I read posts about how prices will never come down but they always have. It might take a year but this too shall pass.

While I agree that the prices always come back down I don't necessarily think they come back down to pre-panic levels.

I think that rampant inflation will not only affect ammo in the coming years. Once the supply of ammo reaches a near saturation point, the prices will come down. Nobody knows how much. Of course any pending legislation affecting the ability to purchase ammo or a tax would greatly affect the price.

Spoiler alert! Due to energy shortages ALL TVs in Nursing Homes are to be replaced with "Checker Boards" until furthur notice.

There's been plenty of talk on shutting down online purchasing, and we do see that already in place in several states. It wouldn't shock me if they pushed it through, or at least tried to.
As for buying locally, I strongly suspect a "sin tax" similar to what they did on cigarettes years ago will be in discussions. Think about it this way- not only would it cause ammo to be harder to get (more expensive), but after this year, there's going to be a lot of budget shortages due to decreased tax income and loss of productivity. Taxing an in-demand product higher will be quite appealing to lots of politicians on both sides, I bet. Those on "our side" will say it's a way to make it available.
That's why I wonder about people talking of selling stuff for a profit right now. Seems kinda shortsighted.

With the proposed erosion of the Bill of Rights protections, the bigger question should be will our sovereignty be maintained or will "guests" be invited to help maintain the "order as proclaimed by anarchists"?

Or as Mark Twain said: "History doesn't repeat itself, but
it often rhymes". Remember during Obama's administration, and after Sandy Hook. I have learned a thing or two (69 here), and I am ok for my home cast bullets, primers, powder and cases. Not bragging at all.

It doesn’t do any good to speculate on what the future may bring. We also don’t discuss politics, which has been touched on far too many times in this thread.
If you wish to take positive steps to protect your 2A rights, support the NRA. Keep an eye on our 2A forum for alerts about restrictive legislation that threatens our rights. Contact your representatives and make your voices heard.
