Default How old is this .22 ammo?

Going through my stash of .22 ammo I found 5 boxes of this Remington Standard Velocity target ammo. It shot fine at the range today--no misfires or duds and it grouped nicely out of my 17-3.

I know an old timer gave me two bricks of this some 40 years ago--any idea on the timespan of these green and blue boxes?

I don't remember seeing the green and blue boxes (in Argentina you don't always see the same products as in the United States) but if they were stored correctly they don't have to fail, I also have ammunition that I bought many years ago and they never fail and your S&W 17 is a beauty.

I believe the standard velocity Rem 22LR has continued to use the green & blue box, even more recently.

IIRC the Bridgeport, Connecticut plant closed in 1986.

I still have a brick or 2. My 513 loves them at 50y. I bought a case about 30 years ago.

I am thinking 1974 to 1984. There is a great pdf on dating Remington ammo boxes and it you look on page 10, you will see a similar design.

The file is too large to add to this post, but you can download this pdf using the following link.

Thanks to everyone for the information! I got the ammo in the early 80's but I thought it was older than that. Doesn't really matter, what matters is that it still shoots fine after all these years.
I only have a couple of boxes left--after it's gone I may have to break open the case of Remington SV I got from the CMP a while ago. That's also good stuff.

I was given some of that ammo about twenty years ago. I figured at the time it was pretty new - maybe not.

I'd venture a guess that yours is newer than mine.

I see the box... So, tell me, how many rounds remain in that box...? And where are they?

Guessing that the ammo in the OP is 70' or 80's. Shoot it up.

Sorry. I guess I misread your post. I don’t have them handy at the moment, but they are just lead round nose 22 shells. My uncle retired from the naval base in Charleston, SC. I never really heard how he came into these, but he had piles of them in his garage. I’ve shot thousands of them through the years, but hung onto a brick for sentimental reasons I suppose.

Can anyone tell me where I might find some empty .22 ammo boxes from the 1950's? I am building a display for my 1957 Winchester Model 62 A for props. Thanks, Bob

They started making those style boxes in 1974.

Thanks! After I shoot up the ammo I'll hang onto the boxes as a keepsake of an old shooter's generosity.
