Default 32-20 winchester ammo search

Hello all,
I have an old single action Colt .32 wcf that is in great shape. A couple years ago I used up what ammo I had. Thought I'd bring it out for a little practice & find that ammo for it is nonexistant.

Does anyone have any ideas. Everywhere I've looked i s"out of stock".

Happy T'day to all,
Lee

If you happen to spot some new old stock laying around make sure it is handgun loads and not rifle loads. Back in the day they made both and there is CONSIDERABLE difference in the loading.

Yep. The old "rifle only" factory stuff is hard to find but I have a box in my collectibles.
It says something like "Adapted For Winchester, Marlin and Colt Rifles?"
A Colt SAA is stout enough to handle it, but not a Smith or a Colt DA. They aren't likely to 'grenade' but will shoot loose way too soon.
Modern factory loads and most reload recipes are handgun-safe.

There is a local store here that has six boxes on the shelf at $59 each. I believe it is 100 gr Remington lead. It is brand new stuff, not NOS. Don’t know if they will ship but I can give you contact info if you PM. I noticed it because it was the only ammo left on the shelf yesterday.

I use cowboy action loads in my S&W 32-20 Hand Ejector. I reload so I haven't looked for any for a while.

Try Georgia Arms for ammo, good stuff! I shoot 44 spl. and 32-20 lead. Accurate, cleaning burning powder and they seem to have stock others don't.

The 100 grain Remington lead load will barely chronograph 1100 fps from a rifle. From a handgun, maybe 850 or 900 at the most. Very mild. I don't they've made the hot rifle .32-20 in a long time, buth there might still be some around. It's hard to see the .32-20 as a hoarder's cartridge. A hoarder would obsess over something more modern.

Don't think it's much of a collectors item. Just not much demand apparently.

Does anyone reload 32-20. I can save once fired if anyone wants it.

This thread strikes me as a real strong argument for reloading. Just sayin’ here...

I was at our LGS today, small town place. He just got in six boxes of 32-20, I think on assignment. One was what I would call a Remington collector box (old), the rest were Winchester, various ages. The price was $65 each, a bit too much for me.

I can't remember ever seeing 30-20 for sale at any sporting goods store, big box or otherwise. I do see it at most gun shows. Mostly older partial boxes or reloads and new brass as well.

Couldn't agree more, especially if you shoot the older WCF calibers that you don't see lying on the shelf much anymore.

I couldn't imagine paying the prices they charge even before the current shortage, let alone now, if you can even find any!

I'm going to be loading some smokeless 32s later today. I'm glad I don't have to hunt around at my local stores for it, I've never seen it at any of them even in good times.

Well said. The 32/20 is a fun round to load and shoot, both in revolvers and in rifles. I've found my best loads are with a 115 grain RNFP (both gas checked and plain base) sized to .313" diameter. Barrels vary, but both my rifle and hand ejector like it.

yes 4.5 gr. of Unique gives me right at 1300 fps in my 24" model 92 with a 115 gr. plain base .313" bullet.

Also a case full of 3FG is great too.
