Academy "Manages" the Shortage
Had to visit Academy for a few purchases. I always stroll through the ammunition aisle for fun. Academy had re-purposed most of the shelf space. What little shelf space was left for ammunition was bare with signs notifying a limit of three boxes per customer. Standing in line to check out I noticed a young man buying a full case of .223. I had to return to the firearm counter to ask what was going on and discovered that ammunition was behind the Customer Service desk. Sure enough they had a fair quantity of centerfire rifle and pistol ammunition on a couple of racks the counter, including a couple more cases of .223. I suppose they're trying, but letting somebody buy one case hardly qualifies as limiting purchases. Maybe they'll let me buy three bricks of .22 LR when it shows up. So ready for this to be over.

Wow! Interesting! I posted this about two weeks ago:
Ammo report - Academy Sports - Dallas
But I went in there just yesterday. No AR or AK ammunition left on the shelf but there was a small amount of odd calibers, large caliber/long distance rifle ammunition and some other oddball rifle stuff. No pistol ammunition. Next time I go there I'm going to ask about "behind the counter" items.
I did see the "Limit 3" sign yesterday. I didn't notice it last month.

At the local Academy Sports, if you get there an hour before they open, you can buy just about any ammo you are looking for. In the parking lot. From the employees. At SCALPERS prices.
The employees buy all the handgun ammo as it is delivered, off the truck. And then sell it at a tremendous profit in the parking lot. And yes, the management IS aware. The only surprising thing, to me, is that people BUY IT from them! Regards 18DAI

I was at Cabelas yesterday and there was .45 ACP on the shelf at normal prices. I went to my indoor range today and they had all the popular calibers at pretty normal prices. I bought a box of Norma .380 for 17 bucks.
I think this will be over sooner rather than later. If the Senate stays red nothing will pass and maybe people will stop buyng ammo like its toilet paper.

This kind of shenanigans should not only get the employees and management summarily fired with prejudice, but the ammunition manufacturers and distributors should terminate their agreements with Academy for cause, breach of their retail sales and supply contracts. Academy sells S&W, Ruger and other major brands that can't let this kind of practice go on. I hope this is an isolated incident.

The Academy Sports stores in my metro holds purchases to a strict limit of ONE individual of a retail box of each item available. Today there was ample Win white box 20 ct .223 on the shelf along with some bulk boxes of .22LR. Limiting ammo to a strict one per individual gets a little into many customers hands.

It would not surprise me as the last shortage it was Walmart employee's buying and reselling ammo. They may be doing some of that now but what they can get is much more limited than 8 years ago.

The was the case with Walmart in my area last time.
I was in a Rural King a couple weeks ago. They were limiting ammo to two boxes per person, but I just happened to be standing there when an off duty employee was shooting the bull with the guys at the gun counter. They had just unloaded a truck and the guy behind the counter wheeled out a cart out and offered the off duty employee some 9mm ammo. When he asked "how much can I buy?", the guy smiled and said "all you want". The off duty employee bought ten boxes. I spoke up and said "I'll take the rest". They gave me a funny look but didn't balk on me buying 20 boxes of 9mm. If they'd have told me it was a two box limit, I'd have asked for the manager and asked why employees could buy "all they want", but not me.

The popular stuff has been behind the front counter at every Academy I’ve been too for the last six months. Their limits vary with time from three to five units of the popular stuff to three of anything, the lowest I’ve seen. I truly doubt Academy employees are allowed to scalp ammo on Academy property, and if anyone has actually witnessed the practice, not just “heard about it,” I truly doubt that Academy management is disinterested . . .

I wish we had an Academy in town.
Ordering from their website is frustrating, their packaging is a joke and shutting off their spam email's takes a long time.

I ordered 11 spinnerbaits from them on line. Same lure, different colors. I got 11 different charges and 11 boxes of one spinnerbait each from all over the place.

I heard these rumors and emailed the GM of a local store, asking him directly. He responded that he personally supervises their ammo and that isn’t happening. OK, except my information came from store employees.

This happened to me a few years back, in the parking lot. At the time, it was for 22LR ammo bricks. Did not realize the "employee" connection. But yes, I got there early, early, but was still last in line...
