Local Deal .38 Special 50cpr. Buy or hold ?
I can get a local law enforcement "deal" for a 1,000 case of PMC 132 grain .38 special ammo for $500 OTD. 38 is the caliber I am lowest on but at current shooting paces I might have enough to last through one full Joe Biden term... but as a previous poster was just saying, 38 ammo now is impossible to find or if you do find it, it is almost a buck a round. Nobody can predict the future, but what do you think? Pass and hope prices come down when I eventually need some or but now at twice the pre covid rate ?

I believe I’d buy it. From what I’m seeing, it’s worth much more than that.
Most ammo I’m seeing for sale is priced 3 to 4 times what I “was” paying before all this madness. By that metric, 50 cents is a bargain.

You wait for the next bus....it may break down and never show up.
Sounds like you have a good supply so buy and sell half.
You'd be able to keep about half at pre covid price.

BUY it NOW
Even if prices from factory/retailer come down , there maybe a large tax put on handgun ammo that raises price even more.

.38 Special was cost effective to reload before COVID-19. Now the prices are even more out of control. $500 for 1000 rounds is a rip-off, but with today’s prices it’s not as bad a rip-off as other calibers. I’d hold my nose and buy it.

I'm theory knowing I could sell it helps me swallow that price. But in reality I'll be keeping the whole case... but I have some friends that shoot 38. If they need a box I would sell it to them at cost or maybe with a nominal finders fee lol

Wow I am glad I reload, if you don't save the brass you might be able to sell it and recoup some of your cost.

If I weren’t already glad that I’m a reloader, this thread would convince me. I’m not sure how many hundreds of HBWCs I’ve got stored up (at least a thousand though) and a few hundred SWCs before I have to start casting my own from the ton or so of lead and alloys in the basement. I already cast for and load the 32s of all sorts, and it looks like I’ll need to start loading 9s and restart loading 45s. I followed advice I heard long ago with regards to components... “Buy ‘em cheap and stack ‘em deep.”
With all my worries, my ammo supply isn’t on the list.

Scalper.
I'd probably just buy it and know that I had enough to last a long time. 38 spl. isn't exactly made in great amounts anymore like 9mm. If it was 9mm or 45 ACP I wouldn't buy it. I bought a case of 22LR a few years ago and I have no idea how long it might take me to use that. At the time I thought it was a ridiculous purchase, but that changed. I do know I probably won't ever have to buy anymore and times like these that puts a huge smile on my face.
Consider that it costs about 0.20/rd to reload it once you're geared up so I don't think that's a bad deal.

Funny you should mention PMC 132 Grain.
I recently bought 3 of the 300 Round Combat Packs.
Paid a little more that your paying.
Yes, I would buy it.
I own a number of 38-357s and shoot a fair amount of it.

Threads like this make my stomach feel the way it did on a Monday morning when I was a kid and I didn't do my homework. We had a mean-*** nun for a teacher.
