Looks to be a bullet from a Hornady Z (for Zombie)-Max round. No kidding.

Knowing the bullet diameter would help with a caliber guess.

Or a JHP that was a) too low velocity and b) penetrated something neon green.

Ah now, let's be technically correct here...A "fired" round could be still in flight...Whereas this one is obviously a "spent" round having exhausted its initial energy, and is now just the subject of internet nitpickers like you and me......Ben

Talking

It can't be "spent" till after it's "fired"!

I feel like there is a joke in there somewhere but it might get me another infraction, so I will leave it alone.

"...a bullet from a round..."

A round of ammunition is the same as a cartridge. I suppose you could call the brass or casing a "fired round" but the photo clearly shows just the bullet. Projectile if you prefer.

Good call, you can still see the scoring lines at the front of the jacket.

Looks like the one in the OP's photo missed the zombie and hit a hanging steel plate or spinner instead.

Is this the same or similar to the Hornady FTX, like the "Critical Defense" round etc? Green tip v. red tip??

I usually avoid flaunting my ignorance of modern technology, and a search on "zombie" on the Hornady web page was not very informative...

Yes, the Zombie is the same as the FTX but with a green material instead of red. The Box it comes in has Green printing. Strictly a "fad" loading that Honady made up a short run of. Some Collectors actively look for it.
