Oh, by the way..........
The wife and I were invited over for a 6pm meal last night and to
meet the DnLaws new boy friend for the first time and also watch the Knight's Hockey game, that was showing after the meal.
Long story short, Kelly came up to me as the table was being cleared and said,
Oh, by the way, I just bought a 1,000 factory 9mm rounds.
With shipping and tax's a little over $800, should be here in a week.
Well that's nice.
I just hope it was a good move and saved her $$ if she had to order later on, with the way the price of ammo is climbing.
It amazes me how the price keeps going up.
Mercy.

OUCH---I guess if you don't reload you have to pay the piper, but 80 cents per round---CRAZY.

I was just checking ammoseek.com and new, brand name brass case 115gr 9mm is selling for ridiculous prices. Norma 72 cents a round, Blazer 90 cents, Federal 92 cents. And these are bulk prices.
Insanity.
And 22LR for 35 cents a round?? ***?

I am really shocked at what ammo prices have become. It’s almost like it’s a collectors item. At that price you price you probably are wasting it at the range

I agree. I'm very hesitant to shoot too much of any caliber with the prices at current levels.

I can’t possibly shoot all of the 22 LR I have in my lifetime. So outside of staying sharp with my carry gun that’s what I’m shooting these days.

And if I run out of ammo and components can it be replaced and at what price. I'm amused at the reloaders that brag about how cheap they can shoot because they bought supplies back when they were cheap so it's much cheaper to reload and the availability of factory ammo doesn't affect them. When they need too replace their supplies they will be in for a rude awakening. Larry

And reloaders are helping to keep some pressure off the current market. Can you imagine what prices would be like if everybody was trying to buy ammo?

It does feel a little different this time. I'm not sure it's going to come down at all.

Predicting anything is a fool's game at this point. Lots of stuff happening that never has before.
In the context of entering a new Dark Ages, ammo prices are actually not too bad!
Or you could look at it this way: Is 1000 rounds of ammo worth 11 pieces of paper?

I have gotten back to shooting my percussion revolvers and flintlock long guns almost exclusively to keep from depleting my cartridge supply.
For the kind of shooting and hunting I do, I have not given up much regarding performance. Most people do not realize what black powder guns are capable of doing.

Especially after ammo companies start shutting down because they have become uninsurable.

If you think retail prices are high, take a look at your local Armlist. One guy here has two 1000 count bricks of small rifle primers. Asking price is $250 each.
Another has a 1000 rd case of some sort of foreign surplus .45acp loose packed in a wooden crate. His price is $1500. Oh, but he will break it up into 100 round lots for $1.50 per round.
I can understand supply and demand on the retail side. But these scalpers just piss me off.

"Why are they charging so much for guns and ammo?"

I had to run to Kroger's this morning and when I came out, I decided to run into Cabela's next door, not expecting to see anything. Walked to the back of the store and ran into a long line of customers. Turned out Cabela's received in truck load of ammo and supplies and were keeping the customers in check. I jumped in line figuring I would wait it out and see what they had. The limit imposed was 8 boxes of ammo. 9mm was already sold out but they did have Federal Magnum small pistol primers in stock. Picked up a 1000 at $4.99/100. Can't complain that there was any price gouging going on as the price seemed to be their normal "not on sale" price. Sounds like things are starting to break loose a little.

I have posted a few recent findings from one or another LGS. Luck of the day draw and mostly everything but 38sp. and .357.
Both of my dealers sell at reasonable prices but this week 380 was up to $24.95/box, 44 mag at $44.95/bx, and 357Sit at $54.95/bx.
Last week one of my range customers came in bragging that he just bought a case of 9mm for $700 from one of the Ammoseek distributors. The guy in the next lane to him bought 400 rounds from our local LGS the day before @ $21/bx.
Different strokes....

I'm thinking seriously about buying a used Ruger LCP in 380 that Bubba dipped in a pixelated camo pattern for $475 since i tcomes with 9 50 round boxes of 380. Take the ammo leave the gun....

For those that really want to spend money on ammo, check out Freedom Munitions, quite a bit in stock but nothing is near their prices of a year ago. I suspect they are using the primers that Xtreme was selling/making prior to the bankruptcy to make their stuff. I am done with buying ammo and components for a while, I will spend my shooting money on airsoft/bb gun stuff.

I think the guy that bought the case got the best deal. He got 600 more bullets for just a few dollars more. Next week he will get more money but there might not be more bullets. Larry

If ammo is $1 a round and you shoot 100 rounds a week, how much can you actually shoot? $400 a month is an expensive hobby and that's just for the ammo. I guess you could pass on that new truck or taking the family on vacation. Maybe there's people on this forum that bought Microsoft stock at $4 a share but how many people do you know who have the disposable income to maintain that kind of expense on recreation? I think we're getting to the saturation point. COVID is releasing it's grip on the distribution chain. People are going back to regular work. The dollar a round 9mm seems to be hanging around longer. Be patient. We will be paying what we were a year ago, plus inflation. These prices are not sustainable. It's just a matter of time.
