Sad when double the price for ammo is seen as a good thing. I would have left it on the shelf. I’m willing to pay more for ammo during these times, but not double the price and more.

How much was 45 going for pre-pandemic?
I sold my last 45 about 5 years ago. But it runs in my mind the price was higher than $.21/round.

Last I seen, about a year or so ago, Walmart had 100 packs of WW white box .45 acp 230 FMJ at $38.00 a box.
So not so bad a price at all for today's market.

You’re right. My math was wrong. The OP’s price is higher than a year ago but okay for now.

$83. for 4 boxes is about $21. a box. Before the panic I bought some for $14. a box so I think $21. is pretty good price considering the circumstances. Of course my wife says that my thinking is not very good. Larry

I sold my new brass Fiocchi 45acp in mid 2018 and got only 11 a box of 50 since everywhere online at the time was around 12 bucks a box. That was one of my dumber moments in life parting with a ton for that price.

Early Covid I bought my SIL 2 boxes of Win White Box 45 ACP.
Got it at NRA Whittington.
They have a small retail store and still had some ammo.

Chain of stores in the NW. Membership, concrete floors. Sort of a mini Costco before Costco was a thing.

I was down to my local BiMart this morning. I was meeting a guy that was buying bulk bullets from me. They open at 10am and as I was waiting for my buyer to show up, I watched 4 pickups with 7 guys pull in and walk inside. It has become common knowledge that they get their sporting goods in on tuesdays. My guy showed up and as we chatted all of the pickup guys were walking out empty handed. I asked one guy if they had ammo and he says noting but some 17. I told him what I had and sold him some bullets I have been peddling.
Figured I might as well go in and check for myself since I was already there. As I walked up to the back sporting good counter a guy was wheeling a stack of boxes out of the back. He says yes it feels like there is ammo in here. He pulled out a case of Winchester 45acp 230gr FMJ, bulk 100rd boxes so I grab 2 (2 per caliber is their limit) at $42.97 per box of 100. Then he pulled out a case of Winchester 380 in 85gr (defensive ammo) in a 20 round box for $11.69, so I grabbed 2. The last case he pulled out was Remington 50 round plain Jane brown generic box, 115gr FMJ at $17.97, so I grabbed 2.
None of this is for me since I load my own for a fraction of these prices. All is for either friends, family, or resale. Before I left the counter everything from all 3 cases was gone. I have been buying plenty of 9mm at this same store when I happen to get lucky on the right day. The price on 9mm has gone from around $0.20 per round, to now $0.36 per round in the past year. I have been reselling at $0.50 per round to guys in need that have not been lucky enough to find it. The current on-line local price for 9mm is now in the $0.70 to $1.00 per round range.
Just happy I have all I need and can still load 9mm for about $0.12 per round for lead, and $0.18 per round for FMJ. All the lead, primers, and powder I invested in back in the 80's and 90's has suddenly become a really good investment.

I wouldn't go into a WalMart for free ammo! We hate Wally world with a passion.

Keep an eye on Federal's website. I just got 5 boxes of American Eagle (the limit per order) 230gr fmj for $24.99/box and free shipping.
Now here's the rub, I signed up for email notifications but never received any, I just check the website when I wake in the morning. My 1911s seem to have a preference for this so I try to get it whenever I come across if the price is right.
I do the same with Sig ammo which also shoots very nice in my 1911s.

Federal has a website that sells ammo directly to consumers?

I was in the process of gathering parts to build my first AR when the Sandy Hook shootings took place. The prices on all things AR/223 went through the roof then as now, and I jumped at the “opportunity” to buy ammo in a case lot of 1000 for the price of $859 plus tax. I hadn’t even gotten all the parts for the gun yet, but I had plenty of ammo.
The price on 223 has gone way down and is now back up, but I still have a couple of boxes of that ammo to remind me that “this too shall pass.” I did buy plenty of the factory ammo calibers I use to get myself through at least a year or so of whatever hard times come along, but I’m beginning to wonder how long this “shortage” will be artificially “lengthened” by the combination of factors involved. Then again, I do have plenty of toilet paper!
