Default How to ship ammunition?

I have two boxes of vintage .38 special that I want to ship to a forum member.

USPS and main FEDEX facility turned me down.

Same at two UPS stores.

We don't have a UPS customer service center nearby.

I buy ammo online and it is usually delivered by UPS.

Any thoughts?

TY.

UPS. Limited quantity black diamond haz mat label required,. Needs to be dropped at a main UPS hub or, if you have a paid account, which obviously you don't, picked up, not the store.

ORM-D labels are no longer used as of 12/31/2020

Word of advice...figure out shipping, etc. BEFORE agreeing to a deal (20+ years as an ebay seller).

Gary hit the nail on the HEAD!! Label, UPS hub are your only legal choices.
You could risk the USPS[obviously you don't declare truthfully] but you won't like the legal consequences.

See if a gunstore can ship it for you.

Get in the car and meet him half way. IMHO, this is not the time to be shipping ammo. Who knows what will happen to it. Just chill out and wait awhile...

I don't know where this came from. If anything, shipping companies have seen an unprecedented amount of ammo shipments which increases experience in handling and efficiency.

If no UPS hub around you, schedule a pick-up (not sure of cost), or track down a driver in your neighborhood to give it to. Or find when the driver is at the local UPS store picking-up and give it to them direct.

My brother became a first time gun owner a few months ago. At my suggestion, he was able to find and buy an S&W Model 64 in .38 Special. Finding ammo was another story.
I sent him 3 boxes of .38 Special from my small hoard. As there are no actual FedEx or UPS hubs anywhere near me, I had FedEx pick up the package from my residence. It was of course entered on their website when I prepared the shipment and printed the label as limited quantity small arms ammunition and had the ORM-D triangle symbol label on the package. It cost something like $28 to ship halfway across the country.

Shipping it is not hard at all, but do find out cost before you make the deal. Size, weight, and box measurements as well as zip code to where it is going, and they can give you a price.

FEDEX and UPS ship it if it is labeled. I like to bring it to them. They will provide you with labels when you bring it, or if you want to stop before, they will give them to you.

That's about the end of story. Don't overthink it, like is happening here.

People are making a mountain out of a molehill with this.

I've sent ammo from both UPS and FedEx, but had to do so at the main hub. I also shipped a pistol back to S&W a few weeks ago via FedEx pick-up. S&W gave me the proper label and such for the pick-up. It was easy.

USP Store and a mailbox place that ships out FedEx said they could not ship ammo or firearms since they were independent stores.

One more thought on this subject:

Delivery to a residential address is higher than delivery to a commercial or office address. If your purchaser can have it shipped to his work address the cost can be considerably less.

Times are tough right now. You got 2 negative answers. You don't really NEED to send it to him and he doesn't really NEED to get it.

Its an antique and a collectible. Its not like he is out of ammo and needs some for personal protection. You are not price gouging and he is not a criminal in need of ammo.

I realize that everybody and their brother is in a frenzy now because of sickness and political discourse. We all need to chill out and wait till life calms down again.

When will it be time? You'll know when.

Be careful shipping it, and please insure it.

I am copy/pasting this from another forum
Quote:
Shipped a buddy 1000 large rifle primers last Friday from the Rosenwald location by BR airport. Told buddy they should be there Tuesday. He calls me today and says they never arrived. I checked the tracking and shows package never left BR.

I went by Said UPS on way home. I showed the girl behind the counter my shipping receipt. She goes in the back and supervisor comes back 15 minutes later. She brings me into her office. Asked me what kind of box was it in and then it hit me. I used a box that had a mag tech 9mm sticker in the outside with hazardous symbols. She said the employees are stealing almost anything they think is ammo. She was very nice and said even though it wasn’t insured her boss would refund me the cost if I could prove the content worth which I can.
The UPS address they reference is the main distribution center for the Baton Rouge area.

It really kinda does make sense, in a terrible way. You HAVE to identify the box, and the prices are going through the ceiling on stuff. And people are selling everything on gunbroker... you aren't sure where anything is coming from.

edit to add- this is not my post, it came from another forum I visit.
I posted a response there for the original poster to push the issue hard; if you can't trust UPS (or any shipper) then that becomes a disaster for all of us, in ways outside just shooting sports.

It does make sad sense, as I said above. A place like Sgammo might have a lot of business and can raise corporate hell if their shipments are disrupted, but for regular Joes you are just angering 1-2 individuals. And right now the required labels for anything ammo-related are a way of saying "this box contains very expensive stuff".

UPDATE.

Turns out that we have a UPS Customer Service Center Kiosk two towns over.

I took it there and there was also an attendant.

I told her what I was shipping and the Haz label on the box and she said, no problem.

So, now to see if it arrives!
