Cardboard Cutouts on Empty Shelves
Saw a sad state of affairs at Greenville's Academy Sports today.
What used to be a whole aisle of ammo was down to a couple of small piles of 7.62, and cardboard cutouts as placeholders on a single row of empty shelves.
Instead of a row of firearm display cases, they were mostly filled with paraphernalia, and one case had more cardboard cutouts of firearm manufacturers.
They did have 2 Rossi 22LR rifles and 8 pistols, widely spaced on two shelves. Hopefully whoever buys one already has ammo.
Nearby, Palmetto State Armory skipped the cutouts and had mostly empty ammo shelves, some .40 and a few esoteric calibers.
They had a 1-box limit on all calibers, and $39.99 Czech 9mm.
And a few firearms choices.

Reminds me of the sports stadiums being lined with silly cutouts of fans, or large banners covering the empty seats.
A big name LGS has a better idea...put crossbows, lanterns, and jerky on the shelves where the ammo used to be. The gun cases are half empty, but so far it's still just guns in the cases.

Wow! Guns and ammo are still almost as popular as air and water. People are spooked and panicked.

What gives with the plentiful 7.62x39? I hopped over to my local academy last Sunday. They have since moved the ammo behind customer service (not that they have much of anything) but they had probably 25-30 boxes of 7.62x39. I ventured to the reloading isle where I always hold out hope they will have something I want. Shelves were almost entirely empty other than 2 boxes of 168gr bthp and a set of custom grade 308win dies. Well. The shelf was emptied when I walked away.

Hmmm... If I could get some of those cardboard cutouts for my ammo shelves at home, I could save some money...

Shoot the cardboard bullets in your cardboard guns at cardboard targets? Circle of life? Cardboard life that is.

We may be heading back to just that. I'm starting to think maybe this guy was onto something.
Life imitates art, right?

It’s only a sign of things to come if we stay panicked and continue buying everything the second it hits the shelf.
Pause. Take a breath.
