"RA 56" marked 38SPL ammo
I know this is Remington made and made in 1956. I have not been able to find any info on weather this is corrosive or not. Anybody here able to answer that question.
Thanks in advance.

I would very seriously doubt if it were corrosive.

Max,
I am inclined to agree with you. Just to be safe, I will perform the nail test with 1 round if I decide to shoot this ammo.

ddixie884,
I know the 30 carbine ammo was never corrosive, but there is no mention of 38SPL ammo in any of the literature I have found on U.S. military corrosive ammo.

From 1956 I would also think it’s non corrosive. By that time they knew corrosive ammo was a problem and had the solution.

The US military started the changeover from corrosive to non-corrosive ammo in 1952 for arsenal production and outside contracts. As far as I am aware the only corrosive ammo produced for the US military (either arsenal or contract) after that was a small lot of 30-06 Match ammo.............. 1956 dated contract ammo from Remington would have been ordered as non-corrosive

I shot a bunch of the M41 38 Special up while in the service. I often kept the brass if there was no turn requirement. It is good and long lived brass.

It is very good brass, a little thicker than commercial. I found that it would shoot in a different place than rounds loaded with commercial brass in my M-52.
