Is there any difference, other than price and quantity, between the 550 round, Load #750, sold by Wally World and the 525 round, load #745 sold by most of the online dealers? The Federal web site does not list Load #750 but the ballistics for the #745 is the same as listed on the #750 pack.

There is a very slight difference in ballistics. The 550's are just a little lighter.

The 525's are:
Weight-
36 grains
Velocity-
1280 fps at muzzle
1020 fps at 100 yards
Energy-
131 Ft. lbs at muzzle
83 Ft. lbs at 100 yards
Drop-
3.4" at 100 yards

The 550's are:
Weight-
36 grains
Velocity-
1260 fps at muzzle
1000 fps at 100 yards
Energy-
125 Ft. lbs at muzzle
80 Ft. lbs at 100 yards
Drop-
5.6" at 100 yards

Now someone needs to explain to me how 2 bullets of the same weight can have different ballistics.

Scott

P.S. I am in Wentzville. Where do you shoot?

Different powders, primers, whatever that result in different velocities.

FWIW, they might be different or they might be the same. The difference in ballistics reported are not so great that they couldn't have been caused by the use of a different barrel or by different atmospheric pressure or just be the slightly different mean velocity given by the same load on a different day.

Truth is, the difference between those two reports is amazingly minor, and would likely be within the standard deviation from the mean of most factory .22 LR "hi-speed" 40-grain loadings. Only way to find out if they're really different is to call Federal and talk to someone who knows for sure, but it sure doesn't look like they're different enough to matter a hoot.

Thanks for the response. I don't know if these are actual test results or just the design specs. I suspect it is the latter. One would think that since they are from the same manufacturer, that they would use the same standard for testing all their products and take the variables out of the picture.

I was just curious and if it starts to really bother me, I will give someone at ATK a call!
