Default yesterday i bought some Fiocchi...

i have a simple question: i bought a box of Fiocchi Range Dynamics full metal jacket in .38 special. 158 grain, 730 fps.

it cost me $37.05, including tax.

did i get skint? or is that a normal price these days?

i did not know a bullet could travel that slow.

Be wary of shooting them in a long barreled gun. A 158 gr FMJ bullet at low velocity poses a real risk of sticking in the bore and if you don’t notice it the next shot will result in a bulged barrel.

A quick search online shows .38 SPL going for $0.80 to $1.20 per round in boxes of 50. Shipping can add to the price as well depending on if you order enough to get it sent free or not.

That price isn’t too high, its just too late. Six months ago you’d be getting high fives.

I’m seeing similar range-grade .38 Special showing up now for around 25 bucks a box.

I just passed last week on Freedom Munitions @$29.50 a box. Just go have fun and shoot it, and forget about it.

TrueShot Gun Club has PMC 132 grain, FMJ for $30 for 50. Of course that doesn't include shipping. They are in stock. You didn't get taken anymore than anyone else who has bought ammo in the last year. For 7 bucks, if I wanted to shoot I wouldn't let that stop me. I've noticed that their prices are trending down, which is an encouraging sign.

At a table at the local flea market this morning I found 9 boxes of Norma 130gr FMJ and the lady was only asking 12 bucks a box. Bought all 9 for 100 bux.

You did get the short end of that stick.... But then, again, I stay far away from "today's market".
Just to give you a reference point, the year before this fake shortage started, I did a favor for a friend and bought a case (20 boxes of 50) of 9mm from him for $180. That's $9.00 a box for those of us who are mathematically challenged. I don't even shoot 9mm normally, I have only one gun in that cal. and never take it out of the safe. Just trying to help a friend who mistakenly purchased 6 cases..... Don't ask.

DON'T BUY ammo or components........supply and demand is controlled by us

J.

Mark Brewer,

For what it's worth, if this will ease your troubled mind American Eagle .38 Spl 158 gr 770 fps is $36.99 factory direct. You didn't do all that bad for what you bought.

Try buying a car. There's always someone who will tell you they could have got it for you cheaper.

I think I'll keep old primer boxes that have the price tag on them and stick my recent purchase in them just so i can show the wife I only paid $12/K for that batch of primers I just bought.
