I'm looking for a defense load for my model 19 with a 2.5" barrel. Does anyone have an opinion as to what I would be better served by. I want to keep recoil and muzzle blast down so I'm looking toward the FBI load or a mid range 125 grain jhp, any thoughts?

FBI load from either Remington or Buffalo Bore. I like the BB load.
Another good choice is the Speer 135 grain Short barrel load in either .38 or .357.

The Speer Gold Dot 135 grain .38 Special +P has a very good reputation and should be very manageable in a M19.

Speer SB .357. If you and the gun like it, look no further.

Any of ther major MFRS. 158 gr. LSWCHP +P will do the trick. It's been puttin' 'em down for over 30 years. Also called the Detroit load. Equivalent to .45 hardball, controllable, and minimum muzzle flash. Easily expands, too. That is what I carry in mine and have in HKS speedloaders. I trust it explicitly..
