What caliber is your big bore carry gun? If you have one.
Like the title says, if you normally carry something bigger than a 9mm/357 what caliber is it?
Definitions:
"Big bore" - .40 caliber and up
"Regularly carry" - Something you carry often in your regular life, not the 500 S&W you bought for a once in a lifetime fishing trip to Alaska. Or the 44 Magnum you only carry while hunting.
I don't regularly carry anything larger than 9mm so I have no dog in this fight. I do have a 44 Magnum but never carry it in town.

I own a number of 44 Magnums, but it's not a round or a gun that I usually carry in public. I do carry the 45 ACP often, usually in a 1911.

Single stack 4013. Only because even with a good belt the 4516-1 still pulls my pants down. 😮

IMO, the only "big bore" I would carry daily would be a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 special; not too heavy.

Was an Officers ACP.
The high capacity 9mm micro's finally gave me a good enough reason to replace it in the role, first with a Hellcat, which in turn has been replaced by a Shield Plus.

1917 with a 4" barrel. The Model 22-4's great grandfather but better looking.

I carry a Glock 20 frequently in the colder months. It's reassuring to have 15 rounds of 10mm...

Unsurprisingly, .45 ACP is leading the poll by a wide margin, but for me it's .40 S&W all the way.
In warm weather I carry a Smith & Wesson Performance Center M&P40 Shield 1.0 and in cold weather I carry a Smith & Wesson Sigma SW40VE.

I have four.
Two five-shot 44 specials, a CA Bulldog that I carry the most, and a Rossi 720 44 special that I occasionally carry.
The third is a Rossi five-shot 44 magnum that I also have carried on occasion.
Lastly I have a 10+1 shot Taurus PT145 that is a pretty good carry.
So with 2 of 4 being 44 special, that's my vote.

Not on your poll list, but the old .44-40 Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter is still just as capable of performing serious social work as it was 107 years ago when it left the factory.

For urban Concealed Carry the only thing at .4 or bigger are several .45acp.
Woods carry in Penn's woods a k or J frame .357 is good to go.
Edit: Do have a Sig 229 with both .40 and .357sig barrels.... and a small stash of mags and ammo......... just in case

Sig Sauer P220 manufactured in Germany, with FMJ 230 grain ammunition, in Argentina we cannot use hollow point for personal defense.

Although I voted 45 acp , my big bore carry gun is a snub-nosed revolver! A Taurus 455 , 5 shots of large caliber in a small package .
At the time I bought it S&W did not make anything like it and I didn't have time for a custom gunsmith to build one ... it's more compact than a cut down 1917 in 45 acp and fills all my needs perfectly .
It's a Sweet big bore belly gun !

I occasionally carry my Rossi Model 720, .44 Special.
Never owned a CA so can’t fairly compare but according to specs from the web the CA weighs 20 oz. and the Rossi 30 oz.
I guess one could make the argument that extra 10 oz. during a day of carrying might be a consideration when choosing which one to buy.

Maybe it's just me but I do not consider 40 or 45 as big bore. Those calibers aren't the first to come to my mind and I am sure many others kinds too. I know that "technically. It is, but what usually comes to mind are powerful hunting handgun calibers.

KAHR PM40 with a viridian R5 laser in their Reactor holster...
Cheers!
P.S. Not really a "Big Bore" IMHO, either. Just a "smallest with the mostest", maybe...?

Too nice to carry
At one point in time I carried my 1917 3inch that I purchased when I was a younger(and luckier) man. Then I realized if I used it I would never be able to replace it so it now sits in the safe and a .44 Spec charter arms now has it's place in the EDC rotation. There is also a Shield .40 that has a turn sometimes.

Makes sense, they prefer that your bullet travels through the intended targeted and kills a bystander as well.

I do have a .40 M&P as a backup to my 9, but it's not really being used. It's just too good. A true EDC!

There's Big Bore, Big Bore Magnum, Big Bore Super Magnum and .............. Iowa Class.
Since the OP didn't state whether it had to be loaded or not, just carried most often, I voted for the 460 as the little one is carried around the wood shop most everyday.
A stainless Officer in 45ACP is carried most often outside of the local area.

I have several to choose from in that category. Sometimes it's a .357 revolver or a 1911 instead of my most carried Shield 9mm or my M&P340. My bigger bore stuff gets carried when I go up on the Grand Mesa for a walk with the dog.I have decided that I could sell off almost everything and go back to carrying a 1911 for almost everything and be happy.

Canadian law only permits antique status pistols for open carry in the wilds, with very very few exceptions. When I'm in the bush, it's a First Mod.DA in .44 Russian.

I carried issued .45 ACP pistols for a lot of years, and spent much of my off duty time shooting/carrying pistols in .40, 10mm Auto, and .45 as well. I really never considered them to be “big bore” handguns although I realize that they technically are based on bore diameter. To me however, a true big bore is a very powerful handgun along the lines of a .44 Magnum or higher power factor.
With that said, I no longer own any such handguns, and am fully confident in my 9mm to do anything that I need a handgun to do for me.

Springfield Armory Elite Champion 45acp. Pretty much every day. On occasion a Taurus PT 24/7c 45acp since it fits in my coat pocket

I feel like this thread is due for a revival, so here goes...
I was actually planning to purchase a M&P45 for this coming Winter, but as usual, I found a better deal on a M&P40c, so .40 S&W remains my big bore carry cartridge.
I have a feeling 10mm Auto might be receiving at least a few more votes this year.
