I was wondering due to inflating ammo prices and shortages cropping up, is that influencing the caliber of Smith's you would buy?

I only have 1 revolver and bought it 1.5 years ago. It's an S&W 460V and I chose it over the 500 because it could fire 3 different calibers (45LC, 454 Casull and 460 mag).

Didn't vote because you had no option for, "I'm not concerned with this, because I already have plenty of guns in the common calibers."

In revolvers, 38/357 and 22lr will always be around no matter what the cost or availability.

I didn't answer the poll, but I'll be sure to mention the high cost of ammo next time I'm looking at a 32, 44 or 38 S&W.

I have not bought 40SW guns for that reason.
The 9mm is cheaper, more plentiful and is fine for target and SD.
I stick to .22, 380, 9mm, 357( a little)
Mostly .22's and 9mm for pistol use.
I sure ain't buying 45's, 44mags, 357sig or any exotic guns. Just too much to shoot them unless you handload. Which I dont.

Sir, from what I can tell, common and uncommon cartridges are both subject to shortages, but at different times. During good times, uncommon cartridges are hard to find; during hard times, they're often the only cartridges you can find. :-/

As has been noted, handloading ameliorates the problem somewhat.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

I didn't answer, either, because there's not a category for me. I reload, so the only shortages that affect me are components. primers are getting pretty hard to find, though!

It has me concerned, from an availablity stand point & price. My current interest is K-22's anyway, and shooting .22's may be best thing in the short term, until we see how things are going to turn out. I'm even having a hard time finding reloading supplies.

I didn't answer the poll either, it didn't seem to fit with my current state-of-mind. Around here it's tough to find 9mm and 40S&W; 38 and 357 is scarce, but there is some to be had and the same holds true for 45acp. I note that the more oddball calibers, stuff like 460, 500, 44 Mag, 5.7x28, etc., are somewhat more plentiful although at a price.

I was actually thinking of buying another 9mm; I've already got two but wanted a smaller gun, but my supplies of 9mm ammo are scarce, I've not handloaded for that caliber (although do handload for many others.....9mm just never seemed quite worth the trouble to me and I didn't shoot all that much of it, plus it was plentiful and cheap) and because my current supply is fairly small I have put off buying the gun due to the difficulty in locating ammo. Hopefully this situation will change.....I imagine that it will, but have no way of knowing when.

The current ammo shortage has reaffirmed a decision I made a few years back to reduce the number of calibers I have to stock. I no longer own guns in 25 ACP, 32 ACP, 32 S&W Long, 38 Super, 41 Mag, 44 Special or 45 LC.

I mainly only stockpile ammo in 22 LR, 380, 9mm, 40S&W, 10mm Auto, 38 Special, and 45 ACP.

Pistol ammo is cheap compared to rifle ammo. I just sold a M-70 Winchester in .25WSSM and I feel very lucky I was able to find a buyer at a reasonable price. The .25WSSM ammo was 3 times as expensieve as Walmart .270 Win ammo and not much difference in performance, but I love big bore handguns so I will probably still pursue .44spec and 45 LC.

I'm able to find 38/357 and 22 easily.

9mm Luger is pretty much unavailable here unless I want to buy SD stuff at more than a buck a cartridge.
