I have purchased ammo online from a couple of different places. They ship UPS. Most of the time I am not home when they attempt delivery. So I arrange to pick up the order at the local hub. Till now.
One place now insists that the order be delivered directly to the address and not be held for pick up! I called this vendor and they said that would notifiy UPS and ask them to hold it for a additional $10.00 charge.
Anyone else experience this?

Never heard of that before!
Who was the supplier so we all learn about it?
I've NEVER had to pay UPS to hold if I wasn't there when they showed up.

I've worked out a deal with my local UPS guy. When I've got a package that needs to be signed for, he just gives me a call and I meet him somewhere during my lunch break. Never been a problem.
Now the FedEx guys are completely different. They won't work with me at all. I usually have to pick things up at the hub. Fortunately, the hubs for both FedEx and FedEx Ground are reasonably close, so it's not that big a deal. But I've never heard of being charged for any of the carriers to hang onto an order.
The only exception I can think of is if your delivery was large engough to take up significant warehouse space. Just how much ammo did you order anyyway?

I ordered 4 bricks of .22 LR ammo. I used to order quite a bit from this outfit, but now they the ammo vendor only allows home delivery, and does not allow pick up at the UPS facility unless you pay the vendor $10.00.
At least thats what the guy told me on the phone. I told the guy I would pay the $10.00 to get my shipment. They contacted UPS and told them they could hold it in the warehouse for me to pick up in person.

It was a guy from Natchez Shooters Supply told me I had to pay an extra $10.00 so that I would be able to pick it up at my local UPS Hub. Otherwise Natchez would have it shipped back to Tenn after the 3rd delivery attempt. I went ahead and paid the $10.00.
It's a shame. I had always enjoyed doing business with them.

Ok, recently I have been looking for 9MM ammo from my normal places online, Natchez being one of the ones I used most. So far all are out of stock on 9MM, plus most of the other rounds I shoot. Just got a great buy on a 659, now looking for more ammo. Any ideas where to find it in stock at a decent price online? I am not a FFL holder. Just like to shoot.

This may not be the answer you want because you did say ONLINE. But I have been finding 9mm at Wal-Mart fairly regular. Blazer gold and win white box 100rnd. you just have to check in often it does not last long. I could have picked up several thousand rounds in the past month if I wanted. 40 S&W also in blaser gold. I have not been able to find 45 ACP. 100 or so at a time every few weeks at best.

Thanks for letting me know. The local walmart sold out last week, I just missed the last whinchester white box of 100 for $20.00. (figures) I did just now follow another thread to this web site, I got 500 rounds of 9MM for 150.00 plus free shipping. It is Fiochi ammo. Not a great price, but much better than my local dealer at 21.00 a box, limit 2 per costomer. http://www.ammoman.com/index.htm calling it a night. i'll check back in the am. have a great night

I buy from www.mastercast.net, which I recommend (Do a search for mastercast). FedEx delivers to the hedge beside my doorstep, no signature required.

Personally I would hve sent it back and demanded a refund. That ten dollar fee amounts to holding your property (you paid for it, right) hostage.

I too have never heard of that problem. Lucky for me, I always got someone at home to take what the UPS man delivers.

I dealt with MidwayUSA, Sportsmansguide, Ammunitiontogo and Cabelas before.
Never had this type of issues. Had to sign for the delivery or pick up from the hub with some of them and some just left the package at the doorstep.
