I can’t be the only person doing this. I go to Wal-Mart every day (as annoying and evil as that place is) until I find what I'm looking for. I’ll either go early in the AM on my way to work or on my lunch break. I work close enough where it’s not a big deal for me. This method may not work for everyone but for me it’s working out alright. When I find what I need I give it a rest for a week or two and then start the cycle again. I figure even with all the quick trips it’s cheaper than buying it online and having to pay shipping. Is anyone else using this model of ‘brute force’ ammo acquisition?

You're right about early morning being a good time. I guess the stuff is taken off the truck at night and waits for an associate to put it on the shelves. My brother in law works part time at Wal-mart and calls me when something I need comes in. I was suprised to find that that sometimes occurs on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings. I don't know if trucks come in on Saturday nights, or if things are just slow enough on Sunday mornings to get the stuff out.

I usually try to buy a box or two with each paycheck. I've got enough now that I don't really worry about it too much.

I go down in my basement and make more.
Can you make primers?

My ammo buying technique is.... I stroll on down to a local gunshop that has all the ammo I need. He doesn't jack up the prices/gouge. He's a good guy. I almost fell into the panic but caught myself early. I spent one whole day and about a hundred miles going from Wal-Mart to Bas-Pro etc and I said to myself after finding many empty shelves "this is insane". Now they have limits and have ammo available at times. Go to the small stores tucked away they are the ones with the ammo not the big box stores that are swamped with people cleaning the shelves.

i just go to in every few days and look. of course, god is taunting me as dick's and walmart ALWAYS have .40. nothing else. as of about an hour ago, walmart had 6 cases of .40 sitting on the shelf, but not a single box of any caliber i have.

Hey! I would like to! I don't have any primers, powder or bullets. I've got cases out the wazoo!

I used to just by primers as I needed them, a couple of hundred at a time.

Now, nobody has anything. I'll just buy what I can get.

Well Gutpile, I guess I have accumulated a year's supply of 45 colt and 460 mag stuff. I also have some components for 38 spl on hand. If you happen by North Alabama, look me up and I'll give you some of anything I have.

Having stuff ain't no fun if you can't give a little away.

My ammo buying technique was to buy all that I could in late 2006, 2007 and early 2008. At last count, excluding 22 rimfire, rifle ammo, and shotgun shells, I have over 25,000 rounds of 380, 9mm, 38 Special, 357 Mag, 40 S&W, 10mm Auto, and 45 ACP. I can look at all the ammo I have stored at home. No need to visit places that sell ammo on a daily basis.

Yeah, I had a psychic moment last year and saw the future so I stocked up pretty good. I'd like to get a couple hundred more rounds of target for a few calibers, but won't pay current prices.

Maybe God is telling you to buy a 40.

but i was in there today and i couldnt believe it: they had boxes of 9mm, .38 Special and 1 box of .45 auto!.

You can reload primers using the tips from strike anywhere matches. The Pakistanis did so for years. I tried it as a kid. The formula for strike anywhere matches has changed somewhat recently, so you might want to test it.

You can also use the matchheads for a gunpowder substitute.

The end result is extremely corrosive though. Still, if you're really hard up.

My biggest complaint about WM is you have to park so far out. Here's my remedy...

Quickest in & out to WM sporting goods dept is usually park by the automotive entrance. Especially on a weekend or peak busy times.

scored more 9mm today at wallyworld! 9.99/box is a steal compared to what the gun shops are charging!

Bought two boxes of 9mm blazer brass at 8.47 a box for my dad. They had two cases available and about 12 boxes of 40 s&w. They said it's starting to wind down around here (panic buying).
