I took a box of Magtech.32S&WL out to the range to shoot thru my new S&W 431 PD and it would not shoot the ammo. It would leave a small dimple but not fire. The pistol will fire H@R .32 Mag all day. I read on line that you could fire H&R .32 mag, Long, and short thru this gun, is this true? It does not seem so right now. Please fill me in so I know what to buy. I am glad I did not have that in the gun when I need to save my life.

Information on the internet is worth what you pay for it. Check the owners manual for the weapon for ammunition requirements and/or contact the factory customer service folks.
Perhaps if you had ammunition from a major manufacturer.......... Magtech has "had issues" in the past.

You should be able to fire .32 SW Long, .32 SW, and .32 H&R Mag (and in a Mad Max scenario, you can try .32 ACP). Has your gun been tinkered with to improve trigger pull by chance?
Could be hard primers on the MagTech.
Was it Federal ammo that you had good luck with in the past? Federal is often reputed to have "soft" primers.

The gun was NIB. The rounds seemed not to be tight against the champer/firing pin. If you moved the gun back and forth the bullet/cartrige would make a clinking noise. Like the rim of the ammo was not fat enough or maybe to thin.

Rim diameter should be .375 and thickness .055.
This rim spec is the same for the .32 S&W, .32 H&R and the .32 S&W long.
Suggest you measure and see if your ammo rim is in spec.

here is a bad picture of the gap between the bullet and the firing pin in .32 Long. the .32 Mag has a gap also but thinner.

I do believe you may have found your problem. Your clearance from rim to breechface is almost the same as the rim thickness. That should not be.

Suggest you take a feeler gauge and measure the gap (headspace), and then call S&W with your information.
It's a factory fix under warranty if the headspace is out of spec.
(Be sure the ammo rim is in spec when you measure headspace.)
