Went up to our local gun show today, hoping to find some ammo deals. No deals today ! ! !
I bought a Model 29 a few months back, and was looking for some cheap ammo to fire at the range. They had 250/240 grain lead heads for $102. I really didn't want to put lead through my gun. I settled on some .44 mag 240 grain Jacketed hollow points instead. That's all they had. I got a can with 250 bullets for $124 plus Ca. tax.
It's been a few years since I've been back to this particular gun show that comes a couple times a year, but there use to be several guys selling tons of ammo. Now, there was only 1 guy in all three buildings. Since he was the only guy, you wouldn't believe the crowd at this stand. It was 3 people thick, around his whole table setup. Are the laws making it harder for them to sell?

Do yourself a favor and start reloading. It's fun, educational, and can save you money (I intend to start casting bullets this year). In a state like California, a stockpile of jacketed lead bullets may become a very valuable/unattainable commodity and you can buy a lot more bullets with a given amount of money than loaded cartridges. Casting can fill your needs for range ammo.

I haven't seen any deals on ammo at gun shows in a long, long, time. With the recent high cost of metals and the demand spurred by panic buying, the prices have gone through the roof. Vendors that had ammo sitting aorund for years, judging by ther outdated box designs/logos, that they have next to nothing in are marking them up to current full retail. People are buying it, many not realizing the ammo they are paying today's prices for was manufactured 15-20 years ago, and has sat around in location and conditions unknown, until now. Buyer beware!

I got a real education on ammo prices this weekend! I reload all my own ammo but I do have quite a bit of factory stuff that I have collected over the years. Most of it was acquired through gun trades. I listed 7 boxes of 9mm ammo all hollow point on GB, granted 2 boxes were law enforcement boxed black talons but it brought $251 plus shipping! I think im gonna dig the rest of it out, and then take the wife on a nice vacation!
