So I says to myself, get a .22. Always lot's of ammo around. So I bought a Beretta Neos (sorry S&W fans...got one of those too) Well low and behold, seems everyone must have had the same idea. I used to buy a brick of Remington at Wally World for 14.00 now it's not to be found. Even Cabelas at 21.00 a brick ain't got. When will the madbness end?

The last time I saw any Winchester Hi-Velocity 22 LR, it was $29 for a brick.

Get a shotgun. There are still plenty of shotgun shells to be had. It worked for Mad Max after all.

I dusted off my old pellet rifles and pistol. Pellets are close to what 22 LR bulk ammo was a few years ago, but it's still available. My old .20 caliber Blue Streak is fine for garden pests and squirrel and the 17 caliber stiff is fine for starlings and targets.

Before everyone started goin nuts I ordered 2k rounds of CCI mini-mags, I'm glad I did. At that time I also got 1k of 7.62 wolf black box HP, A couple months ago I decided I needed another 1k rounds of 7.62. I got on the waiting list for ammo at centerfire and just got my 1k of 7.62 MC HP friday which was 130$ more than the first 1k, I guess it pays to plan ahead

Wal-Mart has recently instituted a 6 box (or less) limit per customer per day on handgun ammunition so things are starting to loosen up just a little. For the first time in months I have started to see 9mm and 38 Special on the shelves. I agree that the "value packs" are hard to come by, but they are there. Its just a matter of timing. I have found that going early in the morning in the middle of the week is usually best. YMMV!

If you wait until Saturday or Sunday afternoon when the weather is really nice, forget about it!

Scott

P.S. I also have a Neos - nice gun!

.22 ammo is generally available around here, but you can't be too picky as to brand.

+1 on GatorFarmer's shotgun comments, shotshells are readily available and the so-called "target" loads, low-brass small shot-size for trap/skeet/sporting-clays shooting are about the same price they were five years ago, maybe just a little bit higher but nothing like the inflation that has occurred with the center-fire and rimfire stuff.

try Champions Shooters Supply in Ohio or Champions Choice in Tenn. the expensive ammo is generally available. for good ammo try SK. it is the best value for quality ammo. join a gun club and get CMP ammo at the CLUB price, Aguila.
