How do you store/carry your moon clips?

I've always been interested in how folks do stuff, I'm always ready to learn something. A few searches didn't turn up anything, so....

How do you guys store your .45 auto revolver ammo? I admit to having a few OCDs, ammo storage being one of them, and being a bit of a prepper. This is one way I store my .45 auto on moon clips,





I load up moon clips from the rounds in the box, remove the tray, and by inverting each clip in the box, 48 rounds fit perfect. I throw a 1/2" conduit demooner , a desiccant, and seven boxes of ammo in each .30cal can. One day, I'll make up some stencils so the label will look better, handwriting is not one of my OCDs it seems

That looks pretty good. From looking at the last photo, I'll bet you could put a layer of loaded clips on top of the boxed ones and get that can to hold an even 402 rounds.

I used to use wood blocks to hold moon clips for the small ammo cans but it was not enough ammo for a day at the range, I went with a diffent idea using large ammo cans.


My original wood blocks fit in a small can and stacked 4 high leaving enough room at one end for a box or two of ammo.


This rig drops into a large ammo can and has more than enough loads ready for a day at the range.

I keep loaded moon clips in Rubbermaid 1.2 l./1.5 qt. square or round plastic containers. They hold 20 or so clips which is more than enough, for me, for a range session. If you need more bring another. The containers are cheap, stack easily and not too heavy. Plus they seal pretty well.

I don't keep more than about 2 containers fully loaded. If the invasion begins, I'll likely be using a different weapon than the 625, wonderful as it is.

And remember that in a pinch a 625 with properly cut chambers doesn't need a moon clip to run perfectly well. Just pick or pop out the brass and load like any other revolver. Slower of course, but it still works.

Smith, I've seen those ammo can inserts and really dig 'em. One day I'll make one up for the range, I don't know how well suited they are to long term storage, but probably will be fine.

For carrying moons while hunting and on the quads, I pulled the cups out of an old Bianchi speed loader pouch and cut some paper towel tubes and taped them together. Holds four clips real nice like,

Oh yeah! My 625-8 pictured above shoots 'em just fine without clips. Sometimes I just keep a 1911 magazine in my back pocket as a reload, if I get through the first cylinder, I eject the clip and thumb rounds out of the mag into the chambers like a .45 PEZ dispenser. As my only reload, not extracting via the star doesn't matter.

I keep mine loaded and loose packed in a .30 cal. ammo can. The empty ones hang on a nail over my loading bench till needed.

As for carry I just use the standard speed loader pouch. I put an spacer in the bottom of the pouch to raise em up for easy retrieval.
