I need to stock up on some good .38 special ammo. I've got plenty of shotgun ammo on hand, and (as long as I'm willing to pay the price) I'm doing okay with 9mm and .45ACP. Based on an earlier post, I checked the .38 special on Midway's site. Lots of it is listed as out of stock, no backorder. Based on what they have, and hoping not to pay way too much, have any of you had any particularly positive or negative experience with these three: Black Hills reload, Mag-Tech, or Ultramax? (Any other recommendations for decent .38 special would be greatly appreciated. I want something more versatile than the 130-grain FMJ, but don't need the real high end personal defense rounds. Maybe a good SJHP.)

There is a seller on GB named sellforless who has a bunch of Speer Gold Dot .38 +P ammo for $330/1,000. That works out to $16.50 per 50 rounds when most of the locals sell the same ammo in 20 round boxes for more than that. He is good to deal with. The ammo is excellent.

I have used Magtech many times with no problems- burns clean, reliable. My last batch from Midway was $15.49 for boxes of 50 158gr FMJ.

I've bought ammo from ATG on GunBroker before, and have them saved in my 'Favorites.' It just seems like a lot of places are "Out of stock" on the ammo I'm looking for. No surprises there, huh?!

I was never much for the Hydra-shock. For a .38 snub, my choice would probably be the 110 gr. Silvertip. Great bad-guy stopper, but don't count on it being able to penetrate anything else before or after the bad guy!
