I have always like Winchester silvertips in both the 30-30 and revolver cartridges.

All ammo is hard to find now, especially any JHP, but Silvertips seem harder to find. Anybody know if they are being discontinued?

They seemed better than Ranger T and Hydrashock. Anybody else here really like them?

I like 'em. I don't know if they are still made but I have over 100 .45 Colt Silvertips.

One local shop has a pretty good supply of them. I use the .45 Colt Silvertips in my 25-5 for my duty ammo.

I see them for sale at one of my favorite gun shops in the modern boxes, so pretty sure they are still being made. I have some older ones in 150 grain .30-06 that I bought at a flea market, have not tried them yet. In the handgun ammo, I carry them in 125 grains for 38 Super.

I carry .44 mag sivertip daily. Have bought from Midway and others since the election in a variety of calibers. All my sources seemed to have them.

I've been looking for Winchester 145gr .357 Magnum Silvertip ammo for almost a year now without success. I sure hope they aren't discontinued. They are scary accurate in my S&W M640.

A local shop had them last time I checked, about a month ago. I believe they are still being made. Check Midway.com

I believe that Winchester is hanging the Silvertip line "out to dry". If I carried Silvertips in any of my guns, I would seek another load.

That's interesting, considering that they just redesigned the whole low-speed line (.32 ACP, .38 Special, .44 Special, .45 ACP and .45 Long Colt) a couple of years ago by replacing the aluminum jackets with a nickle plated copper jacket.

My experience is that in the more commonly available calibers, there are much better choices, i.e. 9mm, .40,.45ACP. However, I believe that in calibers like the .357, it covers a niche between the 125 and the 158s, and it does it well. If Speer could produce a Gold Dot of about 140-145 grains at 1300fps, I believe it would have a winner.

I am still working on a case of .357 Silvertips I was given last year. They are excellent rounds, but were stored poorly and have some corrosion on most of the rounds. I think I managed to put together less than 100 pristine rounds out of the whole case.

I could be totally wrong, and demand for military ammo, for instance, might be the reason that .357 Silvertips seem hard to come by and have been for some time IIRC.
