wanted to get a concensus of which older style hollowpoint load would you choose for a S&W 642 Airweight .38 spl +p snubby; the loads that I have listed are easily obtained thru local shops in my area

+1 on the FBI load, this round is just so proven. This has been my load of choice for my snubbies for a long time.
Cheers,
Sam

As Erich said: "Hands down, the FBI load."
The Remington version, with dead-soft lead bullets, is in my 637 snubby.

FBI load first without a doubt. Second, R-P 125 SJHP (A few agencies I'm familiar with used it for a few years as did LAPD).

If you can't get some of the new/old Nyclad go with the FBI load.

I would fire the Remington FBI load and Remington 125 gr. SJHP into bare and four layer denim/Perma-Gel and pick the load that performed the best. I would also consider how my gun and i shot each load together.

I use the UMC 125 grain load. I used to use the Remington variation of the FBI load. I simply don't like the recoil of the 158 grain offerings in small/light revolvers. I used to carry a 337 which just plain hurt with 158s but was fine with 125s, well not fine, but tolerable, so that may have affected my preferences.

And that's because Gator knows that it's accurate hits that count! What you shoot best, IS best!
(Off topic: Third set of color combo's today. I didn't know my vision was this good!)

I did some very informal comparison testing a couple of years back between the 158 gr. Reminton +P and the winchester 125 gr. +P. Bundled, water-soaked (for 48 hrs) newspaper was the medium, and I shot at 5 yards with my S&W 37-2 snub. The reults were interesting -- the 158 gr. load did penetrate about 1.5" further than the 125 gr. jhp's, but expanded very little. The 125s still went plenty deep, but also expanded beautifully. I still prefer the 158s, but I suspect that someone could be well-served by either.
