I've seen ammo referred to as .44 S&W@Special and .44 Rem@Magnum. Are these the same as regular .44 Special and .44 Magnum?

Sure. Whoever first makes the cartridge gets to name it, but other companies often omit the manufacturer's name in reference.

AND! They also get to "describe" it! Which is part of the reason (today anyway) a .38 is actually a .357", and the .44 is actually a .429", among others. If you find it confusing your not alone? Some of us have spent 2/3's of a lifetime trying to nail down the disparate details of it, and aren't finished yet!
