Hey, Sailor!

Sorry, couldn't resist the bad joke.

IF your are near western Kentucky I know somebody who has six/eight/ten boxes of various loads that he will deal on. Left over from a trade. He also has a couple of Springfield magazines for this caliber. Don't think he wants to ship.

e-mail me for more information

It may take a while, but I think eventually we'll see the shelves restock after the panic buys - maybe after the prices get too high to afford?

Don't convert, if you like the 357sig, keep it, buy it, use it.

I am very, very fond of my SIG 239 in .357. It is a little whippy for my taste, but the actual felt recoil isn't objectionable. It fits my hand great and is an easy carry piece. The hard part was finding a decent holster for it. The slide is just enough bigger/heavier than the 9mm slide that a 9mm holster won't work well.

I personally favor the 357 Sig round over just about any other auto chambering. It is extremely reliable as far as feeding,
has excellent stopping power, and the sexy 357 moniker.

I just picked up a box of 357 Sig Ranger T ammo
earlier today. That is some good stuff.

Not at all! I really like the .357 Sig and think it an outstanding auto pistol cartridge. I bought an extra barrel and converted a Glock 27, to fire the round. It lifts that handgun into another performance category.

Is .357 the same round for semi-autos and revolvers, or is there a difference a la .45 Colt and .45 acp?

.357 Sig is basically the .40SW necked down to 9mm. It is not interchangeable with .357 Magnum rounds.

Thanks GatorFarmer. Does this mean a .357 Sig is interchangeable with a 9 mm round?

No, they are completely different and in no way interchangeable.

I also really like the 357 Sig cartridge. I have a sig 229, glock 31 and Steyr all chambered in 357 sig. I also reload that round/ you can make it mild to wild depending on the powder and charge weight, Our local Pa Game commissin rangers have gone to Glock G-31 in 357 Sig and reaal like it so do a lot of police. In my head board of my bed resided the glock 31 with nigh sight and a full cap mag loaded with corbon power ball untill I get to the shot gun!

I too love the .357 sig. I have a Glock 31 and a full 2 cases of Fed. American Eagle 125 gr. FMJ. I was lucky enough to get them from Ammoman.com when they were $269 per 1,000 rds. Locally, the rate is twice that amount. If you can find it.

I like the idea of a bottle neck to help it feed. I like the .357 Magnum velocities it prints. As a matter of fact, there's precious little about it I don't like? Except the price! IF? Ammo prices ever come back down to earth, and we're not all using slingshots due to regulations, I'll be checking into this caliber more.
BTW- Thanks Gator for the explanation!
For some reason I always thought it was a 10 MM they'd necked down to make the Sig load?
So, China and Conch don't feel so bad! You've got a really old dog attending classes with you!

.357 Sig has dedicated brass. Rim diameter is the same as .40 S&W and 10mm, but the length is right in between the two.

You could resize 10mm brass, but you'd have to cut it down. It's a bit too long, otherwise. Also, 10mm uses large pistol primers where .357 Sig data is all for small pistol primers. Since 10mm brass is usually harder to find and at least as expensive as .357 Sig brass, I don't think it would be worthwhile.

.40 S&W brass is too short if you try to resize it (~0.020 inches, IIRC).

Since .357 Sig is usually cheaper than .357 Magnum anyway, I wouldn't get too concerned about the price! I'm a big fan of this caliber, though I've since converted to the cult of the 10mm.

A LEO buddy turned me onto the 357sig. It's a fav. of mine now & handloading is the way to go for inexpensive ammo, loads for the same cost as 9mm. I love my P239, but for max effort loads, a 5" 1911 is smokin fast.

The sig is a fun round. I shoot a lot of it since it is easy to reload with AA9 and darn accurate. It and the 229 sport are near perfect combinations.

I had a P229 in 357 Sig for a few years. Very nice gun. Accurate and very controllable for the power it was putting out. A great police round. However, I don't presently own any guns in 357 Sig. Factory ammo too pricey these days.

10mm necked down yield the 9x25 Dillon. Double Tap sells the ammo and 10mm Glocks can be converted to it. It'll push a 90gr JHP at 1800fps (reportedly). Might be something to play with if you want to shoot through body armor.

.357 Sig ammo isn't really that bad in price if you compare it to .357 Mag or even most premium loads in other calibers. Ball and JHP also cost about the same for a .357 Sig. It's only expensive compared to a 9mm.

I've got a Glock 32 and a Sig P229R in .357 Sig (or .357 Auto as Glock likes to call it).

I have been told that the .30 mauser with Czech hardball with shoot through soft body armor when fired out of a CZ-52. I have a CZ-52 and some milsurp ammo but haven't felt like backshooting any cops to test it. They would probably get pissed and I can't run that fast any more with my bum leg. Plus it's probably illegal, even here in California.

Supposedly only several types of relatively rare and exotic 7.62x25mm rounds will reliably penetrate a quality IIIA vest.

Federal regulations only regulate bullet construction (i.e. no steel cores) in terms of restricting AP handgun rounds and not velocity or mass. Some people use plastic sabots and then handload an SS109 type 5.56mm projectile, though these would probably be problematic for feeding.

State law of course can vary related to AP rounds.

Vests aren't per se common in terms of criminal misuse, but aren't unknown either. Lots of people other than LEOs wear them. I've been wearing one for years dating back to my slumlording days. They're something of a status symbol for drug dealers as well. Ironically, I think that trend got started on the West Coast, though homemade vests - truck tires, newspaper/phonebooks and duct tape - apparently showed up on the East Coast for some time and earned the nickname "New York Vest".

One California LEO officer I talked to, some years back circa 2000, had obtained a long barreled Springfield Armory .45 Super pistol for personal use owing to concerns of the local miscreants having armor.

Some level II vests apparently had issues with stopping hot .357 Sig rounds and IIA vests were even more problematic. This gave birth to the special threat level II vests and also to more and more users just moving up to IIIA.

If nothing else, all that is worth noting simply owing to the number of people (mostly LEOs) who end up shot with their own gun and worth planning accordingly if one is using a .357 Sig pistol and also wearing armor when selecting what vest to rely on.
