Just recently started shooting 40 S&W and haven't noticed any +P If the beast exists, can a SW 40VE handle it?

Sir, as far as I know, there's no "+P" .40 S&W. The cartridge is loaded to pretty high pressures as it is. I can't recall the exact number, but it's in excess of 30k.

No +P standard has been established by SAAMI. The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute establishes standards for critical dimensions and pressures for ammunition and the arms that use them.
Check your owners manual for ammunition specifications. If you don't have a manual, contact the manufacturer.

357 Magnum 35,000
357 Maximum 40,000
40 S&W 35,000
10 mm 37,500
41 AE 35,000
41 Magnum 36,000
44 Special 15,500
44 Magnum 36,000
45 ACP 21,000
45 ACP +P 23,000
270 Winchester 65,000
"+P" sounds impressive, but it doesn't mean much until you specify which cartridge.
Kind of like "magnum" it really means "more than the parent cartridge."
The .40 S&W is speced about to the potential limit already, particularly in chambers that are not fully supported, which is most of them.

These guys list a +P .40 S&W but as stated there is no "offical or industry +P" in this caliber.

.40 S&W is a great caliber for defense. I see no good reason to head into the uncharted waters of non-SAAMI spec. +P ammo when so many great loads are available in standard pressure. If a person feels that .40 isn't enough, they should shift gears and go with a 10 mm, or a magnum revolver cartridge.

It's not marked +P but believe me, all 40's in factory loads are.

Interesting list of pressures. Now, which ones are PSI and which are CUP? The measurements aren't the same and there is no direct correlation.
