I have experimented with both rounds extensively in a 4" S&W. Both will expand
nicely, but I found the Silvertip to expand slightly more. Even from a snub, the Silvertip got to at least 45 cal. Both however are not suitable for anything in the self defense dept. IMHO.

Think of this, +P+ 110 grain 38s have lousy penetration and the loads you mentioned are standard pressure-they will be worse. I have used a 110gr 38 Hydrashock to euthanize a dog hit by a car and two consecutive rounds failed to penetrate his skull. I now only use 158 LRN for that.

The Border Patrol and US Treasury used 110 gr 38 +P+ (1982-1986) for a time and found them woefully lacking on penetration. One agent said he shot a jackrabbit with them and they couldnt exit the jackrabbit.

My 2 cents, if you go standard pressure get the Buffalo Bore 158 gr LSWCHP. If +P, 158gr Rem FBI loads then.

If I just had to pick between the loads you mentioned I would go Silvertip hands down, but I never recomend loading a 38 rev with 110gr.
