Come June and July
Its been posted many times that things will clear up by the June/July time frame in regards to ammo availability. So what are those who have chosen to sit out this present ammo shortage going to do when things are no better than they are now come June and July.

Maybe I am being too much of an optimist, but I dont see the shortages continuing. In the last week I have been to 2 different local gunshops who had shelves full of ammo at pre-panic pricing. They were limiting buy quantities but it was there. I also attended a gunshow yesterday with a tremendous amount of ammo. Although I didnt find any sweet deals on loaded ammo, I did find good pre panic deals on bullets for reloading. Modern sporting rifles are again abundant at normal pricing. The only remaining tight spot I see is .22lr. But I am hopeful that the Walmart trolls who have been grabbing all of the bulk packs will soon realize that there is no point in having a closet full because they can no longer triple their money and stop buying it.

I received an email today from Creedmoor Sports and they had 30 cal target bullets available in limited quantities from Hornady and Sierra, so supply is slowly making it's way back into the system. I am just going to wait it out and then stock up on reloading components

I want to believe that the shortage will be over soon but I think its going to take a long time to recover and then prices will be 20‰ above pre panic prices. I have yet to see pistol ammo last more than an hour or two after hitting the shelf. Deliveries are inconsisent and dealers have no idea whats coming in until it gets there. I never thought that 9x18 Ultra would disappear but it did and 45LC has gone the way of th DoDo bird. I want to believe its getting better but there is no proof. Plus if the politics continue then I see no end in sight.

I'd go fishing too but the lakes are nearly dried up. Looking at maybe a crossbow or poker.

I am going to shoot ammo I bought before the panic started.
It was on sale then and I had some cash. No limits either.
Haven't bought a round since a month before the beginning of the ammo run.
Also plan to shoot reloads I made last fall.

Thanks for reminding me. I plan to load a bunch of 9mm tonight, I already have the Dillon set up, but I forgot to get the brass started tumbling. I too stock up when possible, regardless of circumstances. The 22 ammo situation doesn't concern me much, I can load 38 wadcutters far cheaper than I can buy 22 ammo. I do have a bit of 22 LR squirreled away, but we'll hold on to that and see what develops. Right now it's irreplaceable, and too valuable to shoot outside of competition of course.

Seriously to me the whole .22 ammo shortage/price is a joke.
Unless you compete with .22 lr its just a plinking caliber-buy a pellet gun for the kids to shoot ect.
As a hunter/shooter I very seldom shoot my .22's anymore and would not be freaking out if I did not have any ammo for them.
What does concern me is the lack of availability of larger caliber ammo and the magnum rimfire ammo.
I know people with a need for .22 mag and .17 hmr for varmint control on their farm lands.
Also the ammo situation has gotten worse/includes more calibers now.
Its very hard to find .38 special .357 magnum and .44 magnum now and even .40 ammo is finally starting to dry up.
Hunting loads in popular calibers like 7mm and .300 ect. are also starting to dry up. With the increased demand for sporting ammo like 9mm, .223 ect. I fear the hunting ammo will take longer to come back (once its all gone) than the sporting/defense calibers.
I think many hunters are going to be shocked this fall when they can't find the loads for their hunting rifles.
In my opinion the situation has not really improved much in my area (northern Utah) and I live in an area with many gun shops/retailers ect.
.223/5.56 ammo is avaliable but it is $.60-70 cents a round.
Very limited .45 auto and no 9mm or .40.
No .22lr or .22 mag and very little .17
Hunting loads for high power rifles are disappearing.
Hardly any .357,.44 mag or .38 special.
Basically the shelf's around here duplicate whats available online.
Its going to be a long time before things return to normal.

The LGSs here seem to have much better stocks in most calibers, but I'm holding out for reloading components.

I think there is about 2% of the shooting population that is currently waiting outside W-mart, Academy, etc. for ammo that hit the shelves that morning. The vast majority of us aren't going to waste valuable time waiting in line to be told there is none or that we are limited to 1-3 boxes. But...we will eventually be buyers. And buy we will. In quantity. We will filter in at varying times over the next couple of years. Because of that, I don't think we will see completely stocked shelves for at least that long. Probably longer.
Regarding my local gun shops, they were plenty high to begin with, before the crunch. I realize they have to pay rent, employees, etc. and I did buy a box here and there from them but it is hard to fork over $11 plus tax for that the box on my LGS's shelf of PMC .223 that I had delivered to my door for an average of $6.50/20 from Midway or Widener's, et al.

I think 2% of the shooting population is a little low around here there is a line every morning at all of the big box stores. With factoring in the rest of the flippers, speculators and tin foil hat wearers I think it may be a long while before it gets anywhere near "normal".
