Hello:

I just picked up a SW model 49 Bodyguard and was wondering when it
was made? The serial number is 4932xx. Thanks.

Looks like 1962-1969, assuming there's not a J prefix.

If there's a J prefix, then it would be 1976-1977.

Hello:

There's no prefix. Is there really such a range (1962-1969) on this one?

Thanks for the reply!

No but the SCSW 3rd is limited for that range. It only lists:
1962 295000
1969 786544

Is it a flat latch? Does it have original grips and are they diamond centered? That could narrow it down a little bit.

Here's a picture of it (no flat latch).

Yes, I got the original grips (same serial number as the gun) with it.
I put a new set of Hogue Bantams on it today.

Thanks.

NICE little bodyguard! I regret getting rid of mine!!

Well that'll narrows it down to 1966-1967-ish...
That tumbpiece wasn't used until 1966 and they got rid of the diamond centers in 1968.

Congratulations on a fine revolver.

Thanks. I took the side plate off last night, removed all of the internals and gave it a thorough cleaning.

The lockwork still looks practically new.
It's a gun that's been carried a lot but shot very little.

It's good to go now. I've got it loaded with 158 gr. standard-pressure Buffalo Bore ammo. Thanks again.
