I need to mill a new sight into the six inch barrel and was thinkin of ordering the parts when I had this crazy (or not) thought that I could hack the barrel off at three inches, rb the grip and make a k framed cs1 type in .22 hmmmm

This is really ironic you posted this, just today I was thinking of posting the exact same question. I would really like to be able to order a S&W 3 inch barrel thats a full lug for a K frame that has not been rifled, and then have it rifled in a .22lr so that the wording on the barrel would be correct and it wouldn't look awkward. I doubt this is possible but its something that intrigues me.

I would have to sand/mill or buff off the words on the barrel and if I do it it will be left nekid... ;)

I was just sitting mindin my own business when the thought popped into my head. I will likely try to machine the front rib for the sight first on the six inch then try it before I get too crazy. Someone before me had he front sight milled off for a rib and used it or a dot sight for bullseye.

I like it n all but for a field gun I was thinkin the short lighter gun would be nice since I do already have a 3 inch cs1.

Anyone know a good smith for this kinda work if I don't feel so brave?

I do figure that if I screw up a new four inch barrel is available.

You can call Magnaport...they are pretty good with this type of barrel work and they can convert it to round butt. I recall that they charge about $300 for each operation, but that was a while ago...sounds like a cool project though!

Mark at pinnacle performance only charges 95 bucks to convert a SB to roundbutt.....and he does top notch work, he could do your barrel work as well and it would probably be a bit cheaper.
