Friday, while browsing at a local dealer, I ran across this Model 625-8, Jerry Miculek, NIB. Today, I gave in and bought it.

I took it to the range, and ran about 100 rounds through it. It shoots very accurately, and the trigger is very nice out of the box.

I have two complaints, though -

First - I can't get off twelve rounds and a reload, in 3 seconds. I asked the dealer for an iron-clad guarantee. I thought that lack of a negative was a tacit agreement. ;) ;) :D :D

Second - Even though not a Cajun, I suddenly have this urge for to eat blackened shrimp and jambalaya. :D :D

Is there any hope for me?

Call Midway, ask about maybe getting a free shipping deal on 100,000 rounds or more, you will be up to speed in no time.

Nice looking gun.

Nice looking piece there. I'm practicing hard to be like Jerry Miculek, still have a ways to go.

No sir, there's no hope for you now! Once bitten by the sixtwentyfiveitus bug your a goner. Nice revolver, I did the same thing, wasent looking for a JM but ran across a new one at a killer price and it came home with me.

I recently found this 625-8 non JM model at Bud's. I think they only had a few non JMs and ran out quickly. New old stock maybe?

So, how do you like those grips? I hear most mere mortals aren't that enamoured with Jerry's preference. They look comfy to me, but I've never handled any.

Bubba, I'm among those who aren't "that enamoured with Jerry's preference". I put the original JM's back on for the picture.

When I packed up the revolver at the dealer, I had him throw in a set of Hogue's neoprenes. They're butt-ugly, and not as nice as the JM's (Hogue, I assume), but I have them on almost all of my revolvers.

I fired about fifty rounds with the JM stocks, and the JM's picked up every vibration, and sent them through my hands. I switched, then, and like the results much better.

I understand that it's a selling point for a revolver to wear JM stocks, but
I usually keep the originals in a box, and use what's practical.

Dennis;
Congratulations on a GREAT choice!

Both of my 625's are scary accurate. They are mostly used with my own cast bullets (and of course reloaded by me). My favorite bullet is the H&G #68 (I have a six cavity clone from MiHec and it is just like "shelling corn" while producing LOTS of match quality bullets). My favorite load has been 4.0 grs of Bullseye or equivalent which chronographs just over 700 fps in my revolvers. It is a superb target load (WELL under an inch at 25 yards and "inside "X" ring at 50 yards).

My POWER load will be using my new 454424 NOE clone with Elmer Keith's load of Unique behind it. A 250-260 gr Keith bullet traveling over 900 fps will get the job done on most things including close range whitetail deer and the careless coyote, not to mention the occasional rabbit that I happen to spot before he takes off.

Like I said above, most of my use with these fine revolvers will be target loads and there is NO better platform for it.

I put a "Bang, Inc" spring set in both of mine (Bang, Inc is Jerry Miculek's outfit). I have set both at 9.0 lbs double action and 3.0 lbs single action and they work with ALL brand name primers.

I have large hands and, after shooting them one time, I put Pachmayr Decelerator grips on both of mine. Comfortable and full control is easy to maintain.

YMMV

My first thought is: Why should I buy one of these since I probably wouldn't load it @ 1200 fps with 250 cast? Then I figured that's nuts: this is a specialty gun that isn't designed to be used @ .45 Colt power levels.
And then I realized that I just bought a 696 .44 Special that isn't designed to be a powerhouse either. Each one is perfectly suited for its intended purpose...
And yeah, I like that fellow. My wife once bought me one full day with him as a training instructor. Now there is one fine wife!!!
700 cartridges later through my 1911's and 640-1, I still couldn't beat him, but was he ever fun to watch running steel plates.

When Jerry Miculek sets world records using his stocks, that makes them more than just a "selling point."

That said, not everybody likes them and for good reason. Our hands are all different. I like the Miculek grips on my 625 Mountain Gun and I feel that they are perfect for the street and maybe 50 rounds or so, but I have discovered that after 250 rounds at a major match my hand will be a bloody mess. That's too bad, because nothing else out there enables me to shoot as well as those Miculek grips. I have since learned to curse the physical dimensions of my skinny hands and not the Miculek grips.

A 4" 625 is probably the single most useful handgun that money can buy.

I avoided Model 29's because I wouldn't load them up to Ruger velocities. Earlier this year, I decided to start reloading to the firearm, and not outside the gun's performance envelope.

Since then, I've purchased two Model 29's. They're no doubt a handful, even with middle-of-the-road loads. However, the .44 Magnum wasn't designed as a mid-range wadcutter revolver, either.

Last year I attended a two-day trap shooting class put on by Kay Ohye, one of the premier trapshooters and instructors in the country. Nothing beats professional instruction, whether golf, bowling, or shooting.

First - Ranch Products has their blued steel moonclips, same as the ones that came with the 625JM, for $35/100 delivered. The Classic/DX style HiViz/SDM sight of .250" can be fitted in seconds without tools.

Now, while my homebrews launch a 230gr FMJ at 780+ fps from my 4" 625JM, you can load .45 Colt-ish loads. I have 255gr LSWCs and Speer 4484 250gr Gold Dot JHPs at ~850 fps in both .45 ACP and .45 AR cases. Some folks go hotter - a lot hotter. I'm happy with mine. My first order of business was to ease those sharp-edged grooves on the trigger - that took DNA samples on every squeeze. I'm in the 'I like JM grips column.
