The title says it all. Any idea on the price of a farily worn but functional prewar terrier with the round blade sight and not original grips. And are these worth re-bluing, can you have them reblued by the factory, and how much does that cost? Hey thanks.

You might contact the S&W Service Department to see if they offer service and rebluing for your Terrier: 1-800-331-0852

Smith & Wesson will not reblue a pre-war gun because if it needs parts replaced they are no longer available. Without seeing the gun I would guess it is a $200-$275 in the condition you describe. Rebluing will add nothing to the value as it will never be anything but a shooter. A worn but original shooter will usually be worth more than a refinished shooter.

A 32 or a 38? The bigger caliber brings more.

These are very collectible and even attract interest as shooters. I can offer a guess (just a guess) at $300 or so.

Refinishing is never cost effective because you spend money to lower the value. You refinish when it's important to you that the gun look better and the cost be damned.

It is a 38 version, with the round blade front site, but the blue finish is beat up pretty bad. But it is the first one I have seen in awhile at my price range, but that is probably because of the condition.

I've wanted one of those since I was a little kid, for a pretty stupid reason. I was watching "To Tell The Truth" (yeah, I'm old). They were trying to figure out which contestant was a big shot police detective. Bill Cullen asked all three of them what a Terrier was. None of them, even the real cop, knew. Cullen said to one of the other celebs (Kitty Carlisle?) that it was the kind of gun a cop friend of his carried.

I remember thinking that was a cool name for a gun, and have been on the lookout ever since. (This isn't mine - I still haven't found one. I poached this off the net because this thread needed a picture.)
