Any opinions on the 22.50 haz-mat charge as to it's necessity
or it just another way of gouging. I ship ammo through the UPS system and there is no charge but a box of 1000 primers cost 22.50 extra and they come right in the truck the rest of your order comes in. Just wondering!

There was a post not too long ago about the steps that you have to take to meet the Federal Haz-Mat Requirements.
I would say that for the shipper and transport company it's a major headache. You would certainly want to be covered by insurance and that would not be cheap.
A out-of-state dealer friend found me 5000 large pistol primers at a good price, but simply could not figure out a way to ship them.

It's a Federal regulation that covers a lot of things, and the initial version issued would have practically stopped ammo and component shipments.
The current (negotiated version) is probably more restrictive than it needs to be for small shipments, but the regulation is intended for worst case, and we're stuck with it.

Imposed by the same government that wants to manage your health care.

Until folks get really pissed off America will cease the excess.

I want to buy some firearm finishing materials. Extra shipping charges involved in that transaction for sure. Not to mention the insane prices for nickle 98 salts for hot bluing. All inflated because of the gov.

It gets worse.

On top of the raised $22.50 HazMat fee, Midway is also tacking on a $9.99 special handling fee, bumping your HazMat shipping charge to $31.49!

I have to drive 100 miles to buy primers or powder but I guess it will be cheaper to buy the gas.
