I bought these two today. One is a standard 300 Savage. The other is a straight stocked, takedown model with a 410 shotgun barrel. It is the one I'm wondering about. I've seen two barrel sets with a rifle barrel, but one didn't com with this one. What calibers could be had with the two barrel sets? Did Savage sell any with just the 410 barrel? Wher could one aquire a rifle barrel for this gun? What other information could you share on this odd firearm?

Here's a photo of them at home with family members.

Greg, The 24hr. campfire has a very active Savage collectors sub forum, those fellows are crazy about the 99's.

I'm one of them. More Smiths than 99's, but I'm trying. It looks as though you have some nice ones. Go on the forum as Viss suggests, and you can find out anything you need to know. Here are a couple of mine.

With long guns it's pre 64 Winchesters, but I do own two 99's. Both are pre models with the brass rotory mag and safety by the lever. Of the two 99's, the 99F in 308 is my favorite.

I have been looking for a good used .250 for quite some time. My late brother in law had one and used it for his saddle gun..I saw him take elk, deer, antelope, and goat with it. Just a cool all around lever gun.

Nice, the .410 model has gotta be cool! Had a 99 many years ago and traded it off. Got the urge for another one, they are just a fine old school rifle and I found a nice 1949 vintage EG in .300 Savage. not a show piece but a solid old timer. Enjoy yours!

OUCH!- It brings back memories of my youthfull stupidity. I had acquired an early 1899 model with the curved buttplate in .303 Savage when I was about 20. Traded it 6 months later at a gunshop for a new Stoeger double barrel. They saw me comin'.

Here's my 1955 .243 Featherweight. My old man carved the stock in the early '60's. This one's an heirloom. Bottom one is a perfect condition 1937 EG in .300. Refinished stock. Anyone can have this one for $600!

I've actually been looking for the right one for a while now. Gotta be 300 savage and have schnauble (sp) fore end. Saw some at a few shows but they are priced pretty crazy. It'll go hunting with me, not sit in the safe.
